David Zucker, <\/a>one of the co-creators of \u201cThe Naked Gun\u201d<\/a> comedy franchise, is branching out into teaching \u2015 no joke!<\/p>\n But the subject Zucker is teaching isn\u2019t chemistry, math or English. It\u2019s comedy.<\/p>\n Zucker is now offering a Master Class <\/a>program that teaches the fundamentals of spoof comedy, of which the man who co-directed and wrote films like \u201cAirplane,\u201d \u201cScary Movie 3,\u201d and \u201cTop Secret\u201d is an acknowledged master.<\/p>\n The program offers aspiring parodists a chance to learn what he calls the 15 essential rules for writing, directing and editing comedy that he created with his brother, Jerry, and longtime collaborator Jim Abrahams<\/a>.<\/p>\n Zucker admits it\u2019s hard to teach someone to be funny, but the 15 rules he and his colleagues devised cracked a comedy code that turned deadpan exchanges like,\u00a0\u201c\u2018Surely, you can\u2019t be serious?\u2019 \u2018I am serious, and don\u2019t call me Shirley,\u2019\u201d into classic film hilarity<\/a>.<\/p>\n Related: Pamela Anderson And Liam Neeson Fuel Dating Rumors With Flirty Public Displays<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The audience for a class of how to make film parodies is admittedly pretty niche, and Zucker figures professional filmmakers might already know the rules.<\/p>\n However, there is one group he believes would be a perfect market for the class: The folks who made \u201cThe Naked Gun\u201d remake starring Liam Neeson that is currently in theaters.<\/p>\n \u201cThey would have benefited,\u201d Zucker said cheekily to celebrity.land. \u201cI think they broke all the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThink\u201d is a key word here, as Zucker hasn\u2019t seen the complete film, just the trailer.<\/p>\n Zucker did cite a scene where Neeson thwarts a bank robbery by going undercover in a schoolgirl outfit, complete with tiny skirt, as breaking the \u201cJerry Lewis rule,\u201d where someone does every possible crazy thing to get a laugh.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was \u2018Jerry Lewis\u2019 to me,\u201d Zucker admitted. \u201cWe don\u2019t make characters into clowns.\u201d<\/p>\n Zucker is quick to add that he has nothing against the people who made the latest \u201cNaked Gun\u201d incarnation.<\/p>\n \u201cThey are nice guys and mean well and are fans, but [film parodies are] difficult unless you follow the rules,\u201d Zucker said.<\/p>\n That is slightly more diplomatic than his initial reaction when the trailer for the new film broke in April.<\/p>\n
