Mark Waters<\/strong>‘ fortune cookie did not predict a sequel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The filmmaker\u2014who directed the original 2003 Freaky Friday film\u2014revealed that he was not asked to return to helm the 2025 sequel Freakier Friday, despite original cast members Lindsay Lohan<\/a> <\/strong>(Anna), Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> <\/strong>(Tess), Chad Michael Murray<\/a> <\/strong>(Jake), Stephen Tobolowsky <\/strong>(Mr. Bates)\u00a0and Ryan Malgarini <\/strong>(Harry)\u00a0all reprising their roles.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, I was not invited to the party,” Mark said in an interview with Variety<\/a> published Aug. 15. “I did raise my hand and say I\u2019d love to be involved somehow, even in a kind of godfather aspect or executive producer. But I was not extended an invitation.”<\/span><\/p>\n

But the Mean Girls director went on to acknowledge that he “never developed” his own idea for a second installment and was still happy when he found out that the comedy follow-up, which hit theaters Aug. 8, would be taken on without him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m very supportive of them making a great new movie,” he explained of the sequel, which was directed by Nisha Ganatra<\/strong>. “It would have been nice to be involved but now that I\u2019m not, I sort of compartmentalize it for myself.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
