\u201cAnd Just Like That…<\/a>\u201d creator and showrunner Michael Patrick King is defending his decision to conclude the \u201cSex and the City\u201d revival series with a decidedly unglamorous plot point involving literal poop. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Thursday\u2019s series finale episode, \u201cParty of One,\u201d found Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker<\/a>) celebrating Thanksgiving at the home of her longtime pal, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The evening culminates with Charlotte\u2019s boss, Mark Kasabian (<\/span>Victor Garber<\/span><\/a>), and Miranda scrambling to deal with an overflowing toilet that a lactose-intolerant dinner guest had clogged. The cringe factor of the scene was amped up significantly given just how, um, true to life the prop turds appeared. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In an interview with Variety<\/a> published Thursday, King said he and the show\u2019s creative team saw the scene as a reminder to viewers that \u201cwe cannot take ourselves too seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Craig Blankenhorn\/HBO Max<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n \u201cFor the gorgeousness of Carrie\u2019s pink, sparkly top and tulle skirt \u2014 that\u2019s the high \u2014 the low is a toilet filled up with shit. Being single, there\u2019s a lot of shit, and relationships are a lot of shit,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt\u2019s the comedy, with the drama, with the romance, with the fairy tale. I guess it\u2019s a response to the fairy tale.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n King elaborated further in a chat with Deadline<\/a>, noting that the scene had a \u201csymbolic\u201d aim as well. As for the poop itself, it was made of silicone and required only a single take. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThis was a manifestation of how shit backs up and you have to deal with it. And also, we\u2019ve always done high-low on the show,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve always done couture and comedy… It was the symbolic version of having to deal with a lot of doo doo in relationships, and it backs up if you don\u2019t.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Still, spotlighting excrement in the final episode of a series that\u2019s become synonymous with cutting-edge fashion and New York luxury caught many fans off guard. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhy am I saying farewell to some of my favorite TV characters of all time and seeing a toilet overflow on my screen?\u201d one person wrote on X<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Added another<\/a>: \u201cShould change it to \u2018And just like Crap.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Craig Blankenhorn\/HBO Max<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Critics were similarly unimpressed. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe crescendo of the evening involved a toilet overflowing with lots and lots of poo.
