The film was the highest opener ever for a love story with newcomers. Eventually, it ended up making more than Rs 300 crore at the domestic box office. The success of the film came out of nowhere and completely disrupted the industry. Infact, trade experts have stated that many big stars got sleepless nights due to the success of this film with newcomers and that’s how insecure the industry is actually. While Taran Adarsh claimed that certain industry members were having \u201csleepless nights\u201d over the film\u2019s success. The ‘Aashiqui 2<\/a>‘ director said, “The plan wasn\u2019t to disrupt the industry. The idea was to disrupt my own life. I\u2019d made a sequel film before this, and I didn\u2019t make a good film. Suddenly, everyone was ruling me out. You have to understand, if you\u2019ve been in the industry for 17 years, and you make a sequel film with stars and it doesn\u2019t do well, people want to rule you out. I\u2019ve never been there. I was always the young guy on set. A lot of actors who are getting sleepless nights probably ruled me out.\u201dHe continued, \u201cThe disruption was my own life. I did it my way. Everyone can clearly see that it looks like my kind of film. If other people have got disrupted of it, so be it.\u201d Mohit revealed that after Ek Villain Returns underperformed, some films were taken away from him. While he didn\u2019t directly name Aashiqui 3, he has previously acknowledged that Saiyaara\u2019s script began as that project.
