Quentin Tarantino is explaining why he passed on directing Netflix\u2019s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood<\/em> follow-up<\/a>.<\/p>\n In April, it was announced that Brad Pitt would officially reprise his role of Cliff Booth from the director\u2019s 2019 film. However, to much surprise, David Fincher is attached to direct the project for Netflix, not Tarantino.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n The two-time Oscar winner explained on The Church of Tarantino<\/em><\/a> podcast that he partly didn\u2019t want to helm the movie because he didn\u2019t want his 10th and final film<\/a> to be a sequel.<\/p>\n \u201cI love this script, but I\u2019m still walking down the same ground I\u2019ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me,\u201d he said. \u201cThis last movie, I\u2019ve got to not know what I\u2019m doing again. I\u2019ve got to be in uncharted territory.\u201d<\/p>\n Tarantino went on to explain why Fincher was the right director for the job, singing him a good amount of praise. \u201cI think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n He notably still wrote the feature\u2019s script and will serve as a producer, ensuring that he will \u201cbe around if they need me\u201d as production ensues.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m moving back and forth between here and Israel, so I won\u2019t be on the set every day and everything. But, yeah, I\u2019ll be around if they need me to do something, you know, I will,\u201d Tarantino added.<\/p>\n The Pulp Fiction<\/em> director, too, explained why he scrapped his once-planned last film The Movie Critic<\/em><\/a>. The project, at one point, was also in development as a TV show.<\/p>\n \u201cI really, really like it. There was a challenge that I gave to myself when I did it \u2014 can I take the most boring profession in the world and make it an interesting movie?\u201d Tarantino said. \u201cWho wants to see a TV show about a fucking movie critic? Who wants to see a movie called The Movie Critic<\/em>? That was the test.
