In 2017, New Edition earned their spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame \u2014 and soon, they\u2019ll have their own street on their home turf.<\/p>\n
The city of Boston will honor the homegrown R&B group next Saturday with \u201cNew Edition Day,\u201d which will include a street naming ceremony and community-wide party in Roxbury.<\/p>\n
The special occasion marks the 42nd anniversary of New Edition, which formed in 1978 and would go on to become one of Boston\u2019s biggest contributions to music history (not to mention the spinoffs the group yielded, including Bell Biv DeVoe and member Bobby Brown\u2019s solo career).<\/p>\n
The street naming ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the corner of Ambrose and Albany streets. The festivities will continue at 11 a.m. with a community block party at the Orchard Gardens Boys & Girls Club. Mayor Michelle Wu called the special day a \u201cunique opportunity to bring Boston\u2019s neighborhoods together in a celebration of culture, pride and community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Select members of New Edition reflected on the significance of the events and their connection to the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoston is where it all began for us,\u201d said Bobby Brown. \u201cThis honor means the world to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
