SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Wonka Bass DJ, Cade Alex<\/a>, visits KSLA to speak about upcoming events that will be the first for the newly revived Capri theater, the EDM scene in Shreveport, and his personal visual art form.<\/p>\n

The events August 23rd, Cos Kira – Cosplay Rave Geek\u2019d Con After Party<\/a>, and August 29th, A Widdler\u2019s Paradise<\/a> will be the first two events at the newly revitalized historic theater, The Capri. <\/p>\n

DJ Lomax and DJ group Wonka Bass are responsible for these first two shows. Wonka Bass\u2019 own DJ Cade Alex opens up and talks about the progress the group has had in rebuilding an electronic dance music scene in Shreveport.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth of those are gonna be incredible shows. Both of those, the production is going to be out of this world. Anime rave is gonna be the first weekend The Capri is back open. Super excited about that,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

Who will be performing at the Cos Kira Geek\u2019d Con After Party?<\/h4>\n

Then A Widdler\u2019s Paradise will be performed by The Widdler<\/a>, a popular touring modern dub DJ. The Widdler was born in Tel Aviv and lives in Austin, TX. He is widely recognized as an innovator and originator of dub sound.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a major artist. A major pull for our city and everyone who was able to pull that off needs a pat on the back,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex. <\/i><\/p>\n

How did Wonka Bass<\/a> convince The Widdler to come to Shreveport?<\/h4>\n

\u201cAs you just get deeper into it you start meeting people. You start networking, making connections and like honestly, reaching out to their manager and seeing like, Hey, do you have this date available? What\u2019s the price right? With an artist like that, there are some hoops you have to jump through. As far as, is the sound system going to be like up to par to their minimum standards. The DJ gear that is going to be provided gonna be pro level, all of that stuff. Once we were able to get that all out of the way, everything kinda fell into place,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex. <\/i><\/p>\n

The Widdler is a touring artist, who is well-known in the EDM genre.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe tours a lot, alot. If anyone is familiar with that genre, they have probably heard that name. He\u2019s been around for quite a long time. His catalog is so, so extensive. I play a bunch of his songs in my own sets. Its a pretty big deal,\u201d explains DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

is Ohnoitsdoug<\/a>, ITSJUSTFARRIS<\/a>, Omen, and DJ Deluzion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not only are these big shows coming to town, but we are starting to see a bunch of smaller shows pop up in the area as well.<\/p>\n

Outside of the EDM scene:<\/h4>\n

Big Freedia will be coming to Fatty Arbuckles<\/a>. Big Freedia is one of the pioneers to the newer Bounce genre, which has sprung up in New Orleans. <\/p>\n

\u201c<\/i>Big Freedia<\/i><\/a> parties are always so much fun. They are always off the hook. Even if you are not familiar with Big Freedia, of her music, the scene, the movement, whatever you call it down from south Louisiana, its just fun,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex. \u201cIf you\u2019re not familiar with Bounce music, but you\u2019ve watched a Saints game on TV, you\u2019ve heard bounce music.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

About The Capri<\/h3>\n

DJ, Lomax the Grey<\/a> is heavily involved in the return of The Capri. Anyone looking to book an event there, he\u2019s the one to talk according to DJ Cade Alex.<\/p>\n

With the return of The Capri, events will be held there, as well as movie screenings.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has already told me about some really unique events, not just music events that they are going to have there. Movie showings, I don\u2019t want to give away to much,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

Not only will The Capri host these events, but they are also building a podcast studio inside. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, there are a few podcasts that are already going on in Shreveport-Bossier, right? And, they were filming in Phoenix, and I think the plan was to build out a full podcast studio, I think that might have shifted to The Capri, the last time I heard about it, it could have changed,\u201d says DJ Alex Cade. \u201cLomax was telling me that, not only could it be for podcasts, but if a DJ wanted to go in there and record a DJ set for YouTube or something like that,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex, something he will utilize himself.<\/i><\/p>\n

DJ Cade Alex\u2019s visual art<\/h3>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019ve kinda been doing art my whole life. Like any other artist, right? So, It was never something I really pursued super heavily. And, I just always really loved to draw in my free time. And, a lot of it was just from necessity. Though DJing, I do my own graphic design, that way I don\u2019t have to pay nobody. And, I\u2019ve also transitioned into doing artwork for flyers,\u201d explains DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

His work has evolved over the years and has become very much an old school pop art style that he developed, making event flyers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to incorporate analog techniques, kinda the old school techniques. See how I can marry the traditional and analog. How I can marry photoshop with the old school punk flyers, old school rave flyers. With like scissors and glue. I\u2019ve been really exploring that, and developing my own process,\u201d says DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

He explains that he prints something out, scratch it up, crumble it up, then scan it back in. <\/p>\n

\u201cI might make some marks on the paper, and scan that in, digitally cut that out, and then layer that over my other scans, create these layers, then print that out and scan it in again,\u201d explains CJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

The poster style is not only pop art, but also a form of art itself that records an event that once happened. Something that can be reminisced over. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, back then, it didn\u2019t necessarily feel like art more than advertisement, but as we have gone to this full digital realm, right, everyone kinda wants that old school feeling,\u201d explains DJ Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n

The style itself really is pop art, similar in ways to Andy Warhol\u2019s commercial style.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to hang on to that old school art form, the poster making. I think that\u2019s 17×11, that\u2019s two 8×11\u2019s put like this\u201d says Cade Alex. ” That\u2019s a format people are moving away from, right? With digital, you see more horizontal banners.” <\/i><\/p>\n

Brittney Hazelton and Cade Alex discuss possibly collaborating in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think developing the process can be just as rewarding, you know, and especially collaborating with another artist and coming up with something you wouldn\u2019t otherwise,\u201d says Cade Alex.<\/i><\/p>\n
