Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a> made a bold prediction about late-night TV amid Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u2018s Late Show<\/em><\/a>\u00a0cancellation.<\/p>\n On Saturday, August 16, O\u2019Brien was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame<\/a> alongside Viola Davis<\/a>, Don Mischer<\/a>, Ryan Murphy<\/a>, Mike Post<\/a>, and Henry Winkler<\/a>. While accepting the honor, the comedian spoke of the role that late-night television has played in society.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve dabbled in other things, but that\u2019s where I\u2019ve lived,\u201d the former host of Late Night With Conan O\u2019Brien<\/em><\/a>, The Tonight Show With Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a>,<\/em> and Conan<\/em><\/a> said. \u201cAnd for those of you under 40, late-night television was a service designed to distract college students until science would perfect the internet and online pornography. And boy, did they get that right.\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Brien also weighed in on the future of television \u2014 and specifically, the state of late-night shows \u2014 amid the streaming takeover.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s all electrifying a new generation of viewers,\u201d O\u2019Brien pointed out before making his prediction. \u201cYes, late-night television, as we have known it since around 1950, is going to disappear. But those voices are not going anywhere. People like Stephen Colbert\u00a0are too talented and too essential to go away.\u201d<\/p>\n
