Pete Davidson<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is opening up about his struggles with addiction.<\/p>\n During an appearance on Power 105.1 FM\u2019s The Breakfast Club<\/a><\/em>\u00a0on Wednesday, August 13, the Bupkis<\/em> star, 31, shed light on his past drug use \u2014 and the surprising negative effect that smoking weed had on his mental health.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a daily, all day sorta guy and I got psychosis where you hear voices, and you feel like you\u2019re sitting next to yourself,\u201d Davidson said on the radio show. \u201cWeed isn\u2019t supposed to do that\u2026 it\u2019s because it\u2019s too strong.\u201d<\/p>\n Marijuana wasn\u2019t his only vice. In the interview, the Saturday Night Live<\/em> alum \u2014 who previously revealed to Variety<\/em><\/a> that he\u2019d \u201cbeen in and out of mental health facilities\u201d since he was 9 years old \u2014 went on to admit that he struggled with substance abuse throughout his 20s before eventually cleaning up his act.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a big drug addict \u2014 I would go to rehab and stuff, and I do have mental stuff, and I was in therapy, but if you\u2019re a drug addict, none of that works,\u201d he recalled. \u201cYou can\u2019t go to therapy on a bunch of drugs and expedite it to work.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[It] got a little out of control fast, and I was really young,\u201d he confessed.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m glad all the bad, crazy stuff happened in my 20s,\u201d Davidson continued. \u201cI\u2019m glad I got it out of the way, but it\u2019s tough when you\u2019re young and doing that.
