The highly anticipated film benefited from strong audience reviews and social media trends to attract large crowds.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/15\/entertainment\/freaky-friday-director-reveals-he-wasnt-invited-back-for-sequel\/\">\u201cFreakier Friday,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0which lost the battle for first place to \u201cWeapons\u201d during its double premiere, maintained its second spot, bringing in $14.5 million domestically. The films\u2019 staying power comes during a slower box office weekend, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for the data firm Comscore.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Cary Christopher in a scene from \u201cWeapons.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Warner Bros. Pictures via AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both films prevailed against\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/16\/entertainment\/bob-odenkirk-made-this-movie-to-impress-his-snl-buddies\/\">\u201cNobody 2,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0the R-rated action sequel. The Bob Odenkirk-led film earned $9.25 million across 3,260 North American theaters in its debut weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAugust came on strong last year, so it makes comparisons tough,\u201d Dergarabedian said, noting the box office success of movies like\u00a0\u201cDeadpool and Wolverine\u201d\u00a0and the horror sci-fi\u00a0\u201cAlien: Romulus\u201d\u00a0that premiered this time last year.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>This summer is unlikely to hit the $4 billion benchmark but has provided moviegoers a\u00a0dynamic and diverse\u00a0slate of movies, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t find a genre that\u2019s not represented or a demographic that wouldn\u2019t be attracted to one of these films out there,\u201d Dergarabedian said. \u201cIt\u2019s just that eclectic mix of films with appeal to every demographic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody 2\u201d follows the pandemic success of the first in the series,\u00a0\u201cNobody,\u201d which was released in 2021.\u00a0In the sequel, Hutch Mansell,\u00a0the assassin-turned-nice-guy played by Odenkirk,\u00a0returns to the big screen, this time taking a much-needed family vacation that goes awry.
