Why Alan Cumming’s Return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Was ‘Healing’<\/a> originally appeared on Parade<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n Alan Cumming<\/strong> seems happy he returned to his standout X-Men<\/em> character for a new superhero movie, even if the first time around wasn’t exactly ideal.<\/p>\n The celebrated performer, 60, recently opened up to People<\/em><\/a> about his time working on Marvel’s upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday<\/em>, set to release next year. He had nothing but positive things to say about the experience.<\/p>\n “I just came back. It was amazing. It was actually really\u2026 in a sort of ooey, gooey way, it was really healing and really nice to go back to something that it was a terrible experience when I did it the first time,” he said in a recent interview published Sunday, Aug. 17. “A great film, great film. I love the film.”<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Marvel announced the Spy Kids<\/em> star as one of the actors reprising their roles \u2014 Cumming’s being the X-Men<\/em> franchise’s Nightcrawler \u2014 in the forthcoming Avengers<\/em> film.<\/p>\n Cumming noted to People<\/em> that he was “miserable” making X2<\/em> (2003), which he notes was “awful for a variety of reasons that I have talked about at length.”<\/p>\n The actor previously credited having to spend up to five hours in the makeup chair and difficulties with director Bryan Singer<\/strong>, which he touched on in his memoir, Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life<\/em>, as reasons why he disliked working on the X-Men<\/em> sequel.<\/p>\n Doomsday<\/em>, however, has been a positive experience so far for the Emmy-winning host of The Traitors<\/em>, as People<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n “It was actually really great to go back,” Cumming told the outlet. “And especially, I’m 60 years old. I did not think I would be doing stunts, playing a superhero in my 60s. So that was great. And everyone was really nice. And I got it done really quickly because I couldn’t go, because of The Traitors<\/em>, when most of my scenes were being shot. So I squashed them all together, and got a green screen and various things and little scenes of people here and there. But it was pretty stealthy.”<\/p>\n
