Numerous actors, filmmakers, and musicians have paid tribute to Terence Stamp following his death at 87<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Oscar-nominated British actor was best known for starring in\u00a0The Limey<\/em>,\u00a0Billy Budd<\/em>, and as General Zod in\u00a0Superman<\/em>. You were a true inspiration, both in & out of heels. We\u2019ll always have Kings Canyon, Kings road & F\u2019ing ABBA. Wishing you well on your way \u2018Ralph\u2019!\u201d<\/p>\n Priscilla<\/em> director Stephan Elliott penned a remembrance<\/a> for The Guardian<\/em>, noting that Stamp initially \u201cturned it down.\u201d \u201cTerence admitted he was absolutely terrified to play Bernadette \u2014 he was being voted one of the best-looking men on earth and suddenly in Priscilla he was, and this is a direct quote, \u2018dressed up as an old dog,’\u201d Elliott wrote. \u201cBut he put the pain of what he was going through into the performance, and that\u2019s what made the film.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cTerence kept to himself. He was an enigma. And then he\u2019d show up, use the eyes and turn everybody to jelly. He was a wonderful man \u2014 and he\u2019s not done yet.\u201d<\/p>\n Actor Lou Diamond Phillips, who starred with Stamp in\u00a0Young Guns<\/em>,\u00a0wrote on X<\/a>, \u201cTerribly saddened to hear this. We were all incredibly privileged to have worked with him on\u00a0Young Guns.<\/em>\u00a0He grounded all of us and truly elevated the filming experience. Such class and artistry. What a kind, beautiful, generous man. RIP.\u201d<\/p>\n Edgar Wright, who cast Stamp in his 2021 feature\u00a0Last Night in Soho<\/em> (the actor\u2019s final screen role), shared a lengthy tribute on social media, writing, \u201cTerence was kind, funny, and endlessly fascinating. I loved discussing music with him (his brother managed The Who, and he\u2019s name-checked in The Kinks\u2019 Waterloo Sunset) or reminiscing about his films, going back to his debut in Billy Budd. He spoke of his last shot in that film, describing a transcendental moment with the camera \u2014 a sense of becoming one with the lens.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cDecades later, while directing him, I witnessed something similar. The closer the camera moved, the more hypnotic his presence became. In close-up, his unblinking gaze locked in so powerfully that the effect was extraordinary. Terence was a true movie star: the camera loved him, and he loved it right back.\u201d<\/p>\n Billy Idol noted, \u201cI interviewed Terrence once for details, magazine, New York. It was fantastic meeting him. He was great.\u201d<\/p>\n David Zucker recalled directing Stamp in 2003\u2019s My Boss\u2019s Daughter<\/em> opposite Ashton Kutcher. \u201c\u2018Terry\u2019 as we called him was as sweet and funny as he was scary on screen,\u201d Zucker wrote. \u201cWhen I had to do a reshoot to save the picture, I went to the Chateau Marmont where he graciously volunteered to let me video him hanging off his hotel room balcony\u2026 I can\u2019t say I\u2019ll miss him, since I haven\u2019t seen him for 20 years, but, gee, what an amazing actor and an even better guy.\u201d<\/p>\n Producer Gale Anne Hurd, who worked with Stamp on 1988\u2019s\u00a0Alien Nation<\/em>, tweeted<\/a>, \u201cTerence Stamp was a brilliant actor. I think he and Peter O\u2019Toole not onlv had the most mesmerizing eyes\u2026but delivered equally indelible performances.\u201d<\/p>\n Actor Titus Welliver added<\/a>, \u201cTerrence Stamp has departed. A titan, we are fewer. Flights of angels.\u201d<\/p>\n Stamp\u2019s death was announced Sunday by his family, who said in a statement, \u201cHe leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and a writer that will continue to touch people for years to come,\u201d\u00a0the BBC reported<\/a>.
