{"id":1966802,"date":"2025-08-18T15:04:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T15:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=1966802"},"modified":"2025-08-18T15:04:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T15:04:31","slug":"pressure-on-celebrities-to-condemn-israel-behind-snow-white-flop-gadot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/pressure-on-celebrities-to-condemn-israel-behind-snow-white-flop-gadot\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Pressure on celebrities\u2019 to condemn Israel behind \u2018Snow White\u2019 flop: Gadot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><h2>Author Sally Rooney says she will use BBC royalties to support banned group Palestine Action<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tLONDON: Irish novelist Sally Rooney has said she intends to use royalties from the BBC to fund Palestine Action, a group banned in the UK last month under terrorism legislation, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/08\/17\/sally-rooney-vows-use-bbc-royalties-fund-palestine-action\/\" target=\"_blank\">it was reported on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe \u201cNormal People\u201d author made the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/culture\/books\/2025\/08\/16\/sally-rooney-i-support-palestine-action-if-this-makes-me-a-supporter-of-terror-under-uk-law-so-be-it\/\" target=\"_blank\">remarks in a column for the Irish Times<\/a>, where she argued that if her actions are considered terrorism under British law, \u201cso be it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tShe wrote: \u201cMy books, at least for now, are still published in Britain, and are widely available in bookshops and even supermarkets, in recent years the UK\u2019s state broadcaster has also televised two fine adaptations of my novels, and therefore regularly pays me residual fees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tShe continued: \u201cI want to be clear that I intend to use these proceeds of my work, as well as my public platform generally, to go on supporting Palestine Action and direct action against genocide in whatever way I can.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cIf the British state considers this \u2018terrorism\u2019, then perhaps it should investigate the shady organisations that continue to promote my work and fund my activities, such as WH Smith and the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe broadcaster and bookseller have not yet commented on Rooney&#8217;s remarks.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tPalestine Action was proscribed by the UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper in July after activists allegedly broke into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and damaged two military aircraft, causing \u00a37 million ($9.5 million) of damage.
