Chatting with his One Battle After Another<\/em>\u00a0director Paul Thomas<\/strong> for Esquire<\/a><\/em> magazine, the Oscar winner was asked whether reaching a half-century had made him reflective.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour age is 50, but your emotional maturity is 32. How does that feel?\u201d quizzed Paul, to which Leo quipped, \u201cSo they\u2019re asking about age?\u201d<\/p>\n

But the never-married star said the milestone had made him realize his priorities had shifted \u2014 and he has his mom, Irmelin<\/strong>, to thank!<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time,\u201d he said. \u201cI can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress. I look at my mother, for example, and she just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for his relationships, he says he\u2019s more real: \u201cBeing more upfront and risking having things fall apart or risk the disagreements or risk going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life \u2014 the personal, professional \u2014 it\u2019s that you just don\u2019t want to waste your time anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
