Original ‘Lord of the Rings’ Stars to Return For Upcoming Prequel Film<\/a> originally appeared on Parade<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n A wizard is never late, nor is he ever early \u2013 but arrives precisely <\/em>when he means to. Evidently, judging from the recent words of Ian McKellen, that arrival is seemingly set for the upcoming fantasy prequel, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.<\/em><\/p>\n As reported by Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em>, Sir Ian seemingly confirmed his and his co-star Elijah Wood’s upcoming appearance in the Lord of the Rings <\/em>series’ highly anticipated new entry.<\/p>\n Making an appearance at London’s For the Love of Fantasy <\/em>fan convention this past Sunday, McKellen playfully discussed the upcoming projected, saying, “I hear there’s going to be another movie based in Middle-earth, and it’s going to start filming in May. It’s going to be directed by Gollum, and it’s all about Gollum.”<\/p>\n McKellen is of course referencing both the plot and filmmaker behind The Hunt for Gollum<\/em>, a prequel film set to explore Andy Serkis’ titular Ring-obsessed hermit. Directed by Serkis, the film is expected to arrive in theaters in December 2027.<\/p>\n Providing more details about the film, McKellen then revealed a shocking bit of information that left fans in attendance speechless.<\/p>\n “I’ll tell you two secrets about the casting: There’s a character in the movie called Frodo, and there’s a character in the movie called Gandalf,” the Shakespearean actor said. “Apart from that, my lips are sealed!”<\/p>\n Additional details about the film have been predictably scarce thus far, but with McKellen’s news earned an incredibly enthusiastic response from fans in London this past weekend.<\/p>\n Previously, McKellen, Serkis and Wood starred in all three installments of The Lord of the Rings<\/em> trilogy, along with The Hobbit prequel series in the early 2010s.<\/p>\n In addition to the three principal stars returning for the project, Peter Jackson, the original director of The Lord of the Rings<\/em> and The Hobbit <\/em>series, will return as a producer.<\/p>\n
