According to Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis\u2019 upcoming \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d movie, \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum,\u201d will feature some familiar faces.<\/p>\n
During a \u201cLOTR\u201d panel at London\u2019s For Love of Fantasy event on Sunday (via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>), McKellen \u2014 who played the powerful wizard Gandalf in the \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d and \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d trilogies \u2014 said that Gandalf and Frodo will be part of \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI hear there\u2019s going to be another movie set in Middle-earth, and it\u2019s going to start filming in May. It\u2019s going to be directed by Gollum and it\u2019s all about Gollum,\u201d McKellen said of \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cI\u2019ll tell you two secrets about the casting: there\u2019s a character in the movie called Frodo, and there\u2019s another character called Gandalf. Apart from that, my lips are sealed!\u201d<\/p>\n McKellen did not explicitly say he would be playing Gandalf, or if Elijah Wood would be reprising his role as Frodo. However, Wood was present at the event, as were other \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d stars including Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and John Rhys-Davies.<\/p>\n Variety has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment.<\/p>\n \u201cLord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum\u201d is set for a December 2027 release after originally being slated for 2026. Serkis, who played Gollum in the \u201cLOTR\u201d films, is directing in addition to playing the beloved monster.
