Pete Davidson opened up about his eight seasons on Saturday Night Live<\/em>, and why his sudden fame annoyed some of his veteran cast members.<\/p>\n In an interview on The Breakfast Club<\/a>,<\/em> the comedian looked back at his sudden rise to fame after joining the NBC sketch comedy series at age 20, with just a few years of stand-up under his belt.<\/p>\n \u201cYou got to remember, everyone there did Second City, improv, worked so hard,\u201d Davidson said on the radio show. \u201cI\u2019m not saying I didn\u2019t work hard, but I was only doing comedy for three, four years.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone at SNL<\/em> was 10, 15 years older than me, and I had a tough time,\u201d he added. \u201cThey weren’t mean or anything. It’s just hard to, you know, relate.\u201d<\/p>\n Davidson noted that when he joined SNL<\/em> in 2014, he \u201cunintentionally\u201d made the show more of a \u201ctabloid-y\u201d thing as stories about his high-profile personal life were splashed online.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, I think I did rub people the wrong way, and I think it was just annoying for the cast,\u201d he said. \u201cI think the show as a whole loved it because they were like, people are talking about SNL<\/em>. Not that they weren\u2019t [before],\u201d he quickly added.<\/p>\n In the interview, Davidson, who left the show\u00a0in 2022, revealed that SNL<\/em> cast members don\u2019t make a lot of money when they first start, despite their hard work.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd a lot of what people liked about me was, \u2018Oh, this was a kid from Staten Island that\u2019s just talking s—‘,” he said. “You got to remember all of these people are 10, 15 years older than me working so hard.\u00a0SNL<\/em> don’t pay great until you’re like five, six years in. At the time, you weren\u2019t allowed to do stuff outside of the show that was a payday. You gotta dress up to go to the afterparty and all this s—.\u201d<\/p>\n In a 2024 video for New York<\/em> magazine<\/a>, Davidson was asked about his first big splurge from his first SNL <\/em>paycheck\u2014and it wasn’t much. \u201cDo you guys know what they pay us?\u201d he cracked. \u201cIt\u2019s like three grand an episode.
