Having been in that same place not long ago, Baylor students Luke Fisher and Hannah Barine (pictured above) collaborated to write and record the song, now available on Spotify and Apple Music.

That duo then worked with Geraldine Latty-Luce and Carey Luce, visiting scholars in the Baylor School of Music’s Dunn Center for Christian Music Studies, to translate the recorded song into a more singable acoustic version. That version (“On the Cross-Road”) was recorded by another Baylor Bear, Michael Isenberg (BMED ’20), and taught at Baylor Line Camp this past summer.

“Baylor students are a gift to the world,” says Dr. Charley Ramsey, Baylor’s new University Chaplain. “They are so talented, creative, and capable. I love that Luke and Hannah seized the opportunity and took the bold step of crafting a blessing for this incoming class. Their idea was to make a song that blesses liminality, that points to the goodness of God in times of change. Change can be hard, but our loving God is with us and gives the courage and strength needed to carry on.

“I was so impressed by the way Luke and Hannah worked together — sharing ideas and collaborating in the true sense of the word. It was also amazing to see how faculty and students worked together to bring this song to life. It has been a blessing to many, and it will continue to encourage and inspire as we sing it at Candlelight Service, Homecoming, and wherever else you carry your smart device.”

Sic ’em, #BU29!

“On the Cross-Road” — a class blessing for Baylor University’s Class of 2029

Boxes stacked by the fireplace
Always knew I’d leave
But wanting one more day
My heart is racing, ninety miles a beat
Moving way too fast, always rushing me

But You call me on
You call me on

Looking back and wishing
For more closure and time
Now, I’m far from home
With the end out of sight

But You call me on
You call me on

In the changing pace at the intersect
In the dead of night as I hold my breath
So I pack my bags from the life I knew
Taking what I’ve done, hand it all to You

As You call me on
You call me on

The narrow path, you walk with me
Help me follow where you lead
For You are there, You always provide
You’re my helper and my guide
You are there, You always provide
You’re my helper and my guide
On the Cross-Road
On the Cross-Road

Lyrics & Music: Luke Fisher and Hannah Barine
Adapted by: Geraldine Latty-Luce and Carey Luce
Special thanks to: Michael Isenberg, Dr. Ben Johansen, Dr. Stephen Newby, Dr. Charley Ramsey, Taylor Vieger, and Chris Wommack

‘ The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties ’

‘ Some details of this article were extracted from the following source www2.baylor.edu ’

Baylor’s Class of 2029 arrives on campus this fall united by a common anthem: “CROSS//ROADs,” a class blessing for #BU29 written and recorded by two current Baylor students with the help of Baylor’s School of Music and Office of Spiritual Life.
