Denzel Washington has a confession to make about his acting work in the 90s.<\/p>\n
Yale Daily News reports<\/a> that Washington\u2019s interest in acting dates back to his time as a counselor at a YMCA camp in Lakeville, CT. Washington recalled doing skits for kids, and an individual mentioned he had \u201ca real knack\u201d for acting. This prompted him to pursue a major in theatre, pivoting from previous interest areas, which included biology,<\/a> political science and journalism.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I started college, I never thought about being an actor. Sometimes it takes a little time to find your way,\u201d he explained, according to Yale Daily News.<\/p>\n And find his way he did. Forbes notes<\/a> that Denzel Washington is among the highest-paid actors, earning $27 million gross in 2024. While he has accumulated great wealth, there was a time in his career when he had to pursue roles primarily for the paycheck.<\/p>\n \u201cMy mother used to say, \u2018Do what you gotta do, so that you can do what you want to do\u2019 \u2014 it\u2019s not the other way around,\u201d Washington stated in an interview<\/a> with celebrity.land.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we had four children, I was doing stuff I had to do. You go back and look in the mid-90s \u2014 I won\u2019t mention any movies, I\u2019ll just say the mid-90s, around there.\u201d<\/p>\n Although he does not point out specific roles, he acted in \u00a0\u201cCrimson Tide,\u201d \u201cPhiladelphia,\u201d \u201cThe Pelican Brief,\u201d and Spike Lee-produced films \u201cMalcolm X,\u201d and \u201cHe Got Game\u201d during that time period.<\/p>\n Jeffrey Wright, who accompanied Washington for the celebrity.land interview as part of the press tour for the forthcoming film, \u201cHighest 2 Lowest\u201d added, \u201cA couple (of movies) for the kids?\u201d<\/p>\n Denzel Washington responded, \u201cMore than a couple for the kids \u2014 and the wife, and the house, and the bank, and everybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
