August 20, 2025 – Last weekend, at the grand finale of the 13th<\/sup> annual Savannah VOICE Festival (SVF), the nonprofit organization announced details of its forthcoming 14th<\/sup> season.\u00a0The next season, themed \u201cSunny Days and Starry Nights\u201d, will be held from Aug. 6-16, 2026 in various locations around The Hostess City.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
The 14th<\/sup> season of the Savannah VOICE Festival will feature famous opera \u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d that will be performed in German but with English super titles. \u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d (Die Zauberfl\u00f6te<\/em>) is a two-act opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, first performed in 1791. It\u2019s part fairy tale, part allegory, mixing comedy, romance, and deep moral themes. The story follows Prince Tamino, who is tasked with rescuing Princess Pamina from the sorcerer Sarastro. Along the way, he\u2019s aided by the bird-catcher Papageno and a magical flute whose music can calm any heart. The opera blends fantastical creatures, trials of courage and wisdom, and a tug-of-war between the Queen of the Night\u2019s vengeance and Sarastro\u2019s enlightened brotherhood. It\u2019s famous for its enchanting arias\u2014especially the Queen\u2019s dazzling, high-flying coloratura pieces\u2014and its mix of whimsy and profound philosophy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
In addition to Mozart\u2019s masterpiece, the Festival will offer iconic moments from great American operas in a special AMERICAN OPERA concert. Among other composers in our repertoire, this special event will feature and celebrate composer Carlisle Floyd, in honor of what would have been his 100th birthday. Floyd is often regarded as the \u201cfather of American opera\u201d and is best known for his groundbreaking work\u00a0Susannah<\/em>, a lyrical drama set in rural Tennessee. Premiered in 1955,\u00a0Susannah<\/em>\u00a0has become one of the most performed American operas, featuring the beloved aria\u00a0\u201cAin\u2019t it a Pretty Night?\u201d<\/em>\u2014 a piece that beautifully reflects themes of wonder, hope, and longing, which tie directly into the Festival\u2019s Season 14 theme of \u201cSunny Days and Starry Nights.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
