Speaking to Town & Country magazine <\/a>for a new cover story, the Oscar nominee made the surprise revelation that she would happily star in \u201cMinecraft 2.\u201d Why? \u201cBecause her kids loved the first one and because she\u2019d like to make a pile of cash,\u201d the publication summarized, with Dunst adding herself: \u201cMaybe I can just make a movie where I don\u2019t lose money?\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cA Minecraft Movie,\u201d headlined by Jack Black and Jason Momoa, dominated the spring box office with $955 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far. Despite largely negative reviews, the movie energized gen-Z audiences<\/a> and sparked viral social media<\/a> trends that took over pop culture. It\u2019s the kind of movie that\u2019s the direct opposite of Dunst\u2019s recent auteur-driven output, not that she minds. She\u2019s got a few arthouse projects filming soon anyway, including the mermaid thriller \u201cReptilia\u201d with Mikey Madison and a new Coppola collaboration.<\/p>\n \u201cKirsten makes cool choices,\u201d Coppola told Town & Country magazine<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s never hokey. She can be fully sincere and in touch with emotions without ever being embarrassing. I love working with her and I know she gets me, and I\u2019m excited for her to be the age she is now\u2026I feel like she\u2019s in her Gena Rowlands age and can do complex roles.\u201d<\/p>\n Of course Dunst has always balanced arthouse favorites and populist fare. She played Mary Jane opposite Tobey Maguire\u2019s Peter Parker in Sam Raimi\u2019s original \u201cSpider-Man\u201d trilogy, telling Marie Claire<\/a> last year that she\u2019d be more than happy to return to the comic book movie genre \u201cbecause you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.\u201d<\/p>\n Next up for Dunst is \u201cRoofman,\u201d the Cianfrance-directed crime comedy with Channing Tatum.
