I\u2019m attracted to their flaws. Like, that\u2019s what makes it interesting \u2014 and honestly, that\u2019s what makes the audience interested in watching me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ferguson argued that it would be a disservice to have his character be perfect. &#8220;No one wants to see perfect people. No one wants a sitcom or a movie where it\u2019s like everything just happens neatly,&#8221; Ferguson said. &#8220;And yet, I felt like, you know, at least in the first few <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/celebs\/jesse-tyler-ferguson-podcast\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:seasons of Modern Family;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">seasons of <em>Modern Family<\/em><\/a>, being put on a pedestal in a way as far as like, OK, this is the gay couple that\u2019s a network television on a huge show. They better get this right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The actor brought up one instance where he heard remarks from the community after one storyline aired where Mitch didn&#8217;t want to kiss <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/celebs\/2022\/3\/09\/modern-family-gay-tv-couple-mitchell-cameron-jesse-tyler-ferguson-eric-stonestreet-reunion\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:his husband, Cam (Eric Stonestreet);elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">his husband, Cam (Eric Stonestreet)<\/a> in public and said &#8220;the gays were furious.&#8221; They were quick to be upset, he said, but didn&#8217;t consider the reasons as to why Mitch wouldn&#8217;t be comfortable with PDA and the trauma that might have informed that reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was more powerful to show the story of like, why is this character worried about showing public displays of affection with his partner?\u201d he said. &#8220;It\u2019s because of his past. It\u2019s because of his history. It\u2019s because of the trauma he had as a kid growing up and being gay and being teased by his sister.
