It\u2019s been 17 years since American Idol<\/em><\/a>\u2018s \u201cbattle of the Davids\u201d captivated America.<\/p>\n David Archuleta<\/a> and David Cook<\/a> famously competed against each other in Season 7 of American Idol<\/em>, becoming the season\u2019s top two contestants. When the season\u2019s high-stakes finale aired in May 2008, 31.7 million people tuned in (per the Los Angeles Times<\/a>), and it ended with Cook ultimately emerging victorious.<\/p>\n In an interview with People<\/a> published on Tuesday, August 19, Archuleta revealed that he and Cook have remained friends in the years since his American Idol<\/em> loss. \u201cI do not [keep in touch with Cook] as often now that I live in L.A.,\u201d he told the outlet, noting that he used to live near Cook in Nashville. \u201cI saw him more back then. We would get lunch sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite his new home base, Archuleta said he and Cook make it a point to catch up with each other. \u201cA few months ago he texted me, and I was like, \u2018Dude, I was just thinking about you,’\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd we were just like, \u2018When we\u2019re in the same place, let\u2019s meet up.\u2019 [Cook has] just always been chill and kept to himself.\u201d<\/p>\n Since American Idol<\/em>, both Archuleta and Cook have released multiple studio albums, EPs, and singles. Archuleta\u2019s 2008 track \u201cCrush\u201d peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard<\/a> Hot 100 chart, while Cook\u2019s reached No. 3 on Billboard<\/a>\u2018s Hot 100 that same year.<\/p>\n
