The late Prince Philip<\/strong><\/a> allegedly made an off-color remark after his grandson Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> married Meghan Markle<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal Family, filed out of the chapel,\u201d former royal butler Grant Harrold<\/strong> writes in his upcoming memoir, per a Monday, August 18, excerpt published by The Telegraph<\/a>. <\/i>\u201cWhen Prince Philip came out, he turned to the Queen and said, \u2018Thank f*** that\u2019s over.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry, now 40, and Meghan, now 44, married in May 2018<\/a> during a ceremony held at St George\u2019s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. Most of Harry\u2019s family, including paternal grandparents Philip and Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong>, were present for the nuptials.<\/p>\n

The royal family has not publicly addressed Harrold\u2019s claims in his book, The Royal Butler, <\/i>which hits stores on September 23. Us Weekly <\/i>has reached out for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrince Harry\u2018s relationship with his relatives is complex and complicated. Harry is the youngest son of King Charles III and the late Princess Diana. As children, he and his older brother, Prince William, seemed inseparable, but as they got older, cracks began to form in their relationship. \u201cThere\u2019s always been a part of Harry that [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward<\/strong> previously told Us <\/i><\/a>that Philip had been \u201cvery welcoming\u201d toward Meghan when she married Harry.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was very welcoming to Meghan because, of course, she was a newcomer and a very different newcomer,\u201d Seward, who authored 2021\u2019s Prince Philip Revealed, <\/i>exclusively told Us <\/i>in 2021. \u201cAt the time of Meghan and Harry\u2019s romance, he wasn\u2019t around nearly as much because he\u2019d retired. He didn\u2019t see very much of Meghan at all [and] he didn\u2019t really have a chance to form a relationship with her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seward shared that Philip was \u201cdetermined\u201d to attend the wedding, which took place six weeks after the late prince had hip surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It] is a really good example of him being absolutely determined that whatever happened, he was gonna walk down that aisle at the wedding and take his seat,\u201d Seward said.<\/p>\n

Less than two years after Harry and Meghan\u2019s wedding, they took a step down from their duties as senior working royals and settled across the pond in California. Philip died in April 2021 at the age of 99, and the Duke of Sussex flew overseas solo to attend the funeral. (Meghan was pregnant with the couple\u2019s daughter, Princess Lilibet, at the time and stayed in the United States.)<\/p>\n
