The post Rob Halford: I \u201cBawled My Eyes Out for Hours\u201d Upon Learning of Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s Death<\/a> appeared first on Consequence<\/a>.<\/p>\n Judas Priest<\/a> frontman Rob Halford<\/a> was extremely saddened to learn of Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>\u2019s passing, revealing, \u201cI just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours.\u201d<\/p>\n The singer spoke about his reaction to Ozzy\u2019s death in a new interview with Detroit radio station WRIF (as transcribed by Blabbermouth<\/a>), recalling, \u201cOh, man. I got a call the day [Ozzy\u2019s death] happened. I just put the phone down in my hotel room in \u2014 I think I was in Leeds, in England, and I just curled up in a ball and bawled my eyes out for hours. I just couldn\u2019t believe it. I still can\u2019t believe it now. I\u2019m still grieving, like so many people.\u201d<\/p>\n Get Judas Priest Tickets Here<\/a><\/p>\n He continued, \u201cAnd then we had a show the next day. So, God, how do you process all of this tragedy, all of this love, because I\u2019ve never seen such an outpouring of love. And we did the show and we came to the song that we\u2019ll be playing when we come to see you guys \u2014 it\u2019s called \u2018Giants in the Sky,\u2019 from the Invincible Shield album \u2014 and that song talks about people that we love in music that have moved on to this beautiful place. We reference Lemmy and Ronnie [James Dio] and Paul Di\u2019Anno [of Iron Maiden] and Jill [Janus from] Huntress and Chris [Cornell] and all of these greats, Janis Joplin, Freddie Mercury. And then for that show we added Ozzy at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n Halford added, \u201cAnd I said to everybody, this just so much to try and comprehend and so tough, but Ozzy would say, \u2018Let\u2019s party. Let\u2019s rock and roll. Let\u2019s live it up. Let\u2019s enjoy.\u2019 That was in his heart, his soul, and his spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n The Judas Priest singer further stated that it was important to preserve the legacies of\u00a0artists like Ozzy and others. \u201c\u201dSo it\u2019s great that we are talking about him now and we should keep talking about him forever, like I always talk about Ronnie, I talk about Lemmy,\u201d Halford said. \u201cThese are all friends of mine. And we have to celebrate \u2014 we have to celebrate. That\u2019s the way of helping you through the grief. You think about the memories, you think about the joy, you think about the good times, and that\u2019s what we will always do with Ozzy.\u201d<\/p>\n Judas Priest were invited to take part in the \u201cBack to the Beginning\u201d concert featuring the final performances of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, but had already committed to playing Scorpions\u2019 60th anniversary show on that same day. In lieu of their absence at the historic event, the band recorded a cover of Sabbath\u2019s \u201cWar Pigs.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWe used to text occasionally,\u201d said Halford of his interactions with Ozzy. \u201c\u2018Cause he\u2019s another guy I was in awe of. I\u2019m still in awe of Alice [Cooper]. [Laughs] \u2018Oh my God. He\u2019s Alice Cooper.\u2019 And I used to feel the same whenever I was in Ozzy\u2019s presence, because he had this larger-than-life personality. It\u2019d been a while since we\u2019ve been in touch. But, again, I just have the wonderful memories of the two opportunities I was able to sing for him with Sabbath. And then this recent opportunity to cover \u2018War Pigs,\u2019 which we still play at the start of our show, which is one of the greatest metal songs ever written. So that connection will never be severed in that respect.\u201d<\/p>\n Halford famously stepped in to front Black Sabbath at a show on Ozzfest 2004 when Ozzy had bronchitis. He also fronted Sabbath for a couple shows in 1992 when then-Sabbath-singer Ronnie James Dio refused to open for Ozzy.<\/p>\n Judas Priest are set to embark on a co-headlining North American tour<\/a> with Alice Cooper this fall, with tickets vailable here<\/a>.
