For the past few decades, Giammarese has stepped into the role of lead vocalist for the group, joined by fellow original Buckingham Nick Fortuna on bass, performing at many concerts throughout the country each year. Additionally, Giammarese has been releasing solo albums. In 2019, <em>Goldmine <\/em>spoke with him about <em>Living in the Moment<\/em>. Now Giammarese has released <em>Let the Music Play<\/em> and joined us to discuss a half dozen songs from the album.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><\/figure>\n<p>CARL GIAMMARESE AND FRIENDS<\/p>\n<p><em>Let the Music Play<\/em><\/p>\n<p>24\/7 (CD and digital format)<\/p>\n<p>The album opens gently with \u201cMonday Morning,\u201d with Carl Giammarese playing a country style guitar and wonderful harmonies from Dave Mikulsis. Giammarese told <em>Goldmine<\/em>, \u201cDave is a wonderful singer in the Chicago area classic rock cover band Hi Infidelity and has a vocal range on par with Steve Perry. I met him through Lisa McClowry, who sang \u2018I Will Love You Forever\u2019 with me in 2022. \u2018Monday Morning\u2019 is about my life on the road and coming back home. Giammarese continued, \u201cDan Moffatt is a great sax player. He is part of our Buckinghams three-piece horn section as we travel around Chicago and the Midwest, and is the youngest member, just turning 50. He shared, \u201cI used around seven of my fifteen guitars throughout the album. My Gibson ES-345 is featured on this song, which I have had since about 1969, and it has a lot of bite to it. Larry Millas did a great job of mixing and mastering this song and the whole album.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<noscript><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lean On Me (feat. Dave Mikulskis)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G612cpLSRgU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI Don\u2019t Know Why\u201d is a wonderful love ballad, recalling the style of Burton Cummings, with a grand piano played by Tommy Leerschen. Giammarese explained, \u201cFor this song, I was thinking about back in the day when you would have a crush on a girl and she wouldn\u2019t notice you, and the teenage insecurity you would face. We have been doing a concert series comprised of Chicago bands called The Cornerstones of Rock, over the years, which has included The Ides of March, The Cryan\u2019 Shames, The American Breed, The New Colony Six, Shadows of Knight, and us. I met Tommy through those shows, and he played piano on \u2018I Don\u2019t Know Why\u2019 and \u2018Monday Morning.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<noscript><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"I Don&#039;t Know Why\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ODetBI4l0s8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The piano sound also comes through on \u201cWhisper and a Sigh,\u201d played by Myles Green. Giammarese stated, \u201cMyles is a very prominent keyboard player around Chicago and is an old friend. My cousin Jerry Elarde sang with me on the track. Jerry was in the first band that Nick and I were part of in the early \u201860s, before The Buckinghams.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<noscript><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Whisper and a Sigh\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/basTkmpBwn8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Kiki Ebsen, daughter of the late actor Buddy Ebsen, sang co-lead vocals, background vocals, and played piano and organ on the emotional \u201cThere Comes a Time.\u201d Giammarese concluded, \u201cShe is so giving and connects with you right away. It was such a treat to have her on the album.\u201d Ebsen added, \u201cI really enjoyed the process of recording with Carl on this beautiful song. He is a talented, supportive, and generous artist that I\u2019m proud to call my friend.
