Country music fans are not going to believe it, but Gavin Adcock is right in the middle of controversy this week.<\/p>\n
Actually, country music fans likely totally expected to hear that because Adcock routinely seems to find his way into controversy. This week, though, it\u2019s not Nickelback\u2019s sound guy who he is going after.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s another country music star \u2014 Charley Crockett \u2014 and this time, per Taste of Country<\/b><\/a>, fans are roasting Adcock for his part in it all.<\/p>\n He really stirred it up with a post on X that Taste of Country said was directed at Crockett.<\/p>\n \u201cSomebody needs to tell the \u2018act\u2019 that has let out (the cover) of James town ferry 6 times he should just work on letting out quality original music,\u201d Adcock wrote. \u201cI got more cow (crap) under my pinky then you have seen your whole (expletive) life. Hank Sr. called and asked about the cosplay cowboy.\u201d<\/p>\n What set Adcock off?<\/p>\n Well, you may remember that he is the guy who went off on Beyonce\u2019s \u201cCowboy Country\u2019 album during a show earlier this year, saying that it was not real country music. Which brings us to a post from Crockett on Instagram this week.<\/p>\n \u201cHey country folks,\u201d Crockett wrote.<\/b> <\/a>\u201c(Beyonce) ain\u2019t the source of your discontent. It was 25 years of bro country. #1 country artist on earth listen\u2019s to nothing but rap. Openly says he doesn\u2019t really know any country music. Gotta respect his honesty. The machine points to a black woman who\u2019s making a statement about marginalized people being removed from the conversation altogether, and somehow we all act like the entire pop industry dind\u2019t ambush roots music. These \u2018country boys\u2019 been \u2018singing\u2019 over trap beats for years. So what\u2019s different now? Authenticity. Many of those business folks called me early on. They had whole albums pre written and recorded ready to just plug me in. I have receipts. It\u2019s harder than ever to keep the public\u2019s attention. They said and I quote \u2018we wanna get into country music where you have audience loyalty.\u2019 <\/p>\n \u201cHot today, forgot tomorrow,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t need to put down a black woman to advance my music. That\u2019s just embarrassing to the idea of America and I got no respect for it. Somebody asked me why I listen to (BigXthaPlug) the other day. Easy. He\u2019s genuine. A true story teller. The best hip hop sound to come out Texas in this century. The challenges country music faces aren\u2019t unique. It\u2019s an issue in every *genre*. I don\u2019t have a problem with Americana. I have a problem with being compartmentalized by the music business. Outlaw as a s *sub genre* of country was artists standing up for their rights against a rigid system. Ain\u2019t no reason to imitate (Waylon Jennings) and (Willie Nelson) if you ain\u2019t about the fight. Texas forever.\u201d<\/p>\n Easy to see why folks, and Adcock himself, believed that was aimed at him, and why he might respond.<\/p>\n But, again, it\u2019s not going well for him on X.<\/p>\n \u201cFor someone who didn\u2019t play much college football you have a (expletive) ton of CTE,\u201d one person responded. <\/p>\n \u201cAnd Charley Crockett has more talent in his pinky then you have seen in ur whole (expletive) life,\u201d another responded.<\/p>\n \u201cYou would do anything for attention except make good music brother,\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t you have another generic country song to release sir,\u201d another responded. <\/p>\n So, it appears that Crockett may have come out on top in this round, but there is no reason \u2014 none at all \u2014 not to think that Adcock won\u2019t be coming back for more. <\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
