Apple Music has announced indie-darling Trillion Petals as the latest artist to join its Up Next artist development program in South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be chosen for Up Next South Africa,\u201d she tells TATC. \u201cThis new project is one that\u2019s really close to my heart and I feel so lucky that I get to create art I care about and share it with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Better known as the lead singer of the fever-dream South African indie-pop band HONEYMOAN, Alison Rachel now returns with her debut solo endeavour as Trillion Petals, and the triumphant five-track EP \u201cHill After Pale Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n
An amalgamation of analogue experimentation and soaring indie-rock anthems, lead single \u201cLucky Girl Mantra\u201d captures the emotional whiplash between god complex and imposter syndrome \u2014 an internal conflict familiar to many creatives \u2014 and was produced by UK-based artist\/producer Sfven.<\/p>\n
It sets the tone for what\u2019s to follow, weaving between acoustic proclivities and moments of powerful emotional catharsis.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wrote all the tracks on guitar first, alone, before bringing them into the studio to be reimagined,\u201d Rachel explains. Written and recorded with a select group of producer-artists including Nic van Reenen (Ex Olympic) and Radio Trapani, each bring a distinct texture to Rachel\u2019s guitar-led songwriting.<\/p>\n
\u201c2025 will be a year of releasing more music as Trillion Petals,\u201d Rachel says. \u201cI am currently working on new songs, and I am super excited about them.\u201d<\/p>\n
