Lord Ivar Mountbatten<\/strong><\/a> is best known these days as one of the Season 3 winners of The Traitors<\/a>.<\/p>\n But, Ivar, who is a cousin of King Charles<\/a> through Prince Philip\u2019s<\/a> family, is now making headlines for something much more personal.<\/p>\n He just opened up about his strained relationship with his mother, Janet Mercedes Bryce. And according to Ivar, things between them were never easy.<\/p>\n \u201cBoth my brother and myself have quite a torturous relationship with her,\u201d the 62-year-old royal<\/a> and Traitors prize pot winner<\/a> revealed on the August 18 episode of Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth podcast. \u201cI mean, she never looked after us. We were brought up by nannies.\u201d<\/p>\n Janet, now 87, was married to David Mountbatten, the 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven, until his death in 1970. The couple had two sons, George and Ivar. But after their father passed, Ivar says their mother wasn\u2019t around much at all.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had this wonderful German nanny who looked after us right from the word go,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIn fact, I went on holiday with my nanny because [she] wouldn\u2019t refuse my mother to look after us. She would be absolutely hopeless. So we didn\u2019t really see her very much as youngsters.\u201d<\/p>\n Ivar remembered how he and George would question her absence during family holidays. \u201cWe would often say to her, \u2018Why didn\u2019t you come down for Christmas? Why didn\u2019t you come down for the weekend?\u2019 Her stock answer was, \u2018I can\u2019t be bothered.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n While he admits her parenting style was \u201cirritating,\u201d Ivar insists he doesn\u2019t carry resentment. \u201cWe had the most wonderful life. I always say that I\u2019ve got nothing to complain about. I\u2019m one of those people that just gets on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, time hasn\u2019t softened their bond. Janet has been bedridden since a hip replacement in 2018, and Ivar says he and his brother are now responsible for her care. \u201cIt\u2019s laziness,\u201d he said. \u201cThat sort of irritated my brother and myself. So we\u2019ve ended up having to do everything for her.\u201d<\/p>\n Even with the years of distance, Ivar admitted the thought of losing her brings up complicated feelings. \u201cWhen she finally goes, will I be sad?
