ABC just offered the first look at season 2 of High Potential<\/em> \u2014 and some of Us have got our eye on newcomer Steve Howey<\/strong>\u2019s scenes with Kaitlin Olson<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The network released a still on Wednesday, August 20, showing Howey\u2019s character, Nick<\/a>, reaching out to shake Morgan\u2019s (Olson) hand at the precinct. It was previously revealed that Howey will star on season 2 as \u201ca savvy political animal who knows how to wear an expensive suit and oozes effortless charm.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the official character description, Nick is \u201ca guy who can launch a million fundraisers with his smile\u201d and \u201chas disruptor tenacity and likes thinking outside the box\u201d like Morgan. \u201cHe has a way of putting himself right in the middle of the action \u2026 whether he\u2019s wanted there or not,\u201d the description continues.<\/p>\n

Along with Olson, Howey, 48, is joining costars Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb<\/strong> and Judy Reyes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHigh Potential is coming back \u2014 with more episodes \u2014 but what can fans expect from season 2 when it comes to plot twists, onscreen romance and more? High Potential, which premiered in September 2024, follows a high-potential intellectual named Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) who teams up with the LAPD to help solve murders. She gets [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

High Potential<\/em>, which will return this fall, follows mom-of-three Morgan who teams up with the LAPD to help solve murders with her high IQ. She gets paired up with Detective Karadec (Sunjata), who is initially skeptical about how Morgan can assist the Major Crimes unit but ultimately starts to rely on her.<\/p>\n

It only took fans a few episodes to notice how Karadec and Morgan\u2019s dynamic reminded them of other<\/a> slow-burn couples on procedural shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will definitely say that I actually don\u2019t have the actual ultimate answer to where they\u2019re going to go. In terms of the will-they-won\u2019t-they between Karadec and Morgan, that is up to our writers\u2019 room,\u201d Sunjata, 53, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in November 2024. \u201cI think that they\u2019re going to play the long game with that particular story line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunjata did not rule out Karadec and Morgan remaining platonic for now<\/a> \u2014 or even for good.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, if we ended up getting, like, five seasons, Karadec and Morgan could just stay really good friends with a mutual professional respect who deeply care for one another and maybe flirted with the idea of some kind of romantic interaction,\u201d he noted. \u201cBut if that never happened, that would be a really cool way to take it also.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Sunjata made it clear that the pair\u2019s fate was up to the writers. \u201cI would say that there\u2019s definitely some electricity between the two of them. There\u2019s a reluctant mutual attraction that\u2019s happening,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think we should expect to see anything crazy about that happening anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Executive producer and showrunner Todd Harthan<\/strong> gave Us<\/em> a more promising update<\/a> three months later.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never know. I don\u2019t let my guard down about those things either. I don\u2019t get overly confident until your audience dictates a lot of the things you do. What do they have a big appetite for?\u201d Harthan shared with Us about his plans for the fan-favorite characters. \u201cI might be infamous for slow planning things, but I love a slow burn. Like, selfishly I just love it.\u201d<\/p>\n
