Jennifer Lopez<\/strong><\/a> stuns in the first-look trailer for the queer musical film,\u00a0Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/a>,<\/strong> appearing on screen and performing musical numbers.<\/p>\n The promo for the Manuel Puig novel-adapted-film released yesterday (20 August), showcasing Lopez performing as the glamorous Hollywood star Ingrid Luna.<\/p>\n The story follows Valent\u00edn, a prisoner played by Diego Luna, who shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser portrayed by Ollin Tonatiuh. The two form an unlikely friendship as Molina escapes the harsh realities of prison life by remembering the story of a Hollywood musical featuring his favourite star, Ingrid Luna (Lopez).<\/p>\n Directed by queer-cult-classic Dreamgirls<\/a><\/strong> filmmaker Bill Condon, the movie is based on the acclaimed 1976 novel by Argentinian author Puig.<\/p>\n The trailer consists of vibrant, theatrical sequences reflecting Molina\u2019s inner world, offering a visually rich in colour interpretation of the musical\u2019s story.<\/p>\n Molina also highlights Ingrid Luna\u2019s enduring Latin identity despite Hollywood\u2019s efforts to present her as entirely American.<\/p>\n Speaking to Out Magazine<\/strong><\/a>, the \u2018On The Floor\u2019 singer spoke about her character: \u201cWhat drew me to this story? First of all, the story\u2019s about love, right?\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cIt\u2019s the one thing in life that is really worth dying for in a way, and that\u2019s really the poetry of the movie to me.\u201d<\/p>\n In the trailer, the Razzie Award-nominated<\/a><\/strong> actress appears in a series of dazzling showgirl outfits, including a black, shiny dress set against a spider web. In one scene, Molina remarks, \u201cOne of them I will never forget: the kiss of a spider woman,\u201d referencing Luna\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n The original novel broke new ground by exploring queer love and political resistance, with Tonatiuh\u2019s character Molina challenging conventional ideas about gender and sexuality. The book became banned at the time.<\/p>\n It was previously adapted into a Tony Award<\/strong><\/a>-winning stage musical in 1993 by Terrence McNally, John Kander and Fred Ebb.
