\n\tAura Entertainment has acquired \u201cSatisfied,\u201d a documentary that follows \u201cHamilton<\/a>\u201d star Ren\u00e9e Elise Goldsberry.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the film, which draws its title from the hit \u201cHamilton\u201d song of the same name, Goldsberry\u2019s vlogs capture how she secured the role of Angelica Schuyler in what would become the 2015 Broadway phenomenon \u201cHamilton,\u201d while also enduring fertility issues and trying to mother her two young children.<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by filmmakers Chris Bolan (\u201cA Secret Love\u201d) and Melissa Haizlip (\u201cMr. SOUL!\u201d), \u201cSatisfied\u201d premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film<\/a> Festival. Somewhat surprisingly, given the doc\u2019s celebrity nature and the never-before-seen footage of the making of the Broadway juggernaut \u201cHamilton,\u201d the major streamers didn\u2019t buy film. Aura Entertainment will partner with Fathom Entertainment to release \u201cSatisfied\u201d in U.S. theaters beginning Sept. 30.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2019Satisfied\u2019 isn\u2019t just a story about how one role, one show, changed the face of Broadway for future generations; it\u2019s a story about motherhood and resilience,\u201d said Aura Entertainment\u2019s CEO Marc Goldberg. \u201cRen\u00e9e\u2019s story is both personal and powerful, with a behind-the-scenes look at a cultural phenomenon that audiences around the world will find deeply moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldsberry began vlogging about important moments in her life 11 years ago. She used her iPhone to capture her young son\u2019s birthdays and the 2014 adoption of her daughter in Ethiopia. A few months later, Goldsberry filmed herself after auditioning for a Lin-Manuel Miranda workshop called \u201cThe Hamilton Mixtape.\u201d It was an audition that the actor, known for her roles in Broadway\u2019s \u201cRent\u201d and Netflix\u2019s \u201cGirls5eva,\u201d originally passed on. At the time, Goldsberry was the mother of two children under the age of 5. She wanted to take time away from work to concentrate on parenting, but after hearing Miranda\u2019s song demos for \u201cThe Hamilton Mixtape,\u201d Goldsberry couldn\u2019t resist.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe doc intertwines Goldsberry\u2019s home videos and her never-before-seen iPhone footage of early \u201cHamilton\u201d workshops, as well as the show\u2019s pre-Broadway run with archival news footage and interviews with subjects including Miranda.<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldsberry told Variety<\/em> <\/a>that she never intended to turn her vlogs into a documentary.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt had not crossed my mind,\u201d Goldsberry said. \u201cBut I felt that the experience I was having in \u201cHamilton\u201d was so spectacular and signature. I was very aware that something was happening to me that a lot of people were curious about how it might feel. I grew up dreaming about being a part of an original company of a show, and I was very aware that that dream was happening in my life. I knew \u201cHamilton\u201d wasn\u2019t just a show. I knew it was a show that was going to be the greatest thing I had ever heard of. So I just like, there are a lot of people who would want know what this feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBolan said that Goldsberry\u2019s role in \u201cHamilton\u201d was just the vehicle into the doc. \u201cRen\u00e9e\u2019s story as a mother and her fertility journey was why we wanted to make this film,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSatisfied\u201d is produced by Stick Figure in association with Amblin Documentaries and Aperture Media Partners.<\/p>\n
