ActorJason Isaacs<\/strong><\/a>is sharing his thoughts about the upcoming HBO Harry Potter <\/a><\/em>television series, which features a brand-new cast.<\/p>\n While speaking to Entertainment Weekly<\/a> for an August 2025 interview, Isaacs referenced that he famously portrayed Draco Malfoy’s (Tom Felton<\/a><\/strong>) nefarious father, Lucius Malfoy, in the Harry Potter<\/em> film franchise. He shared his thoughts about the casting of Johnny Flynn <\/strong>as the new version of Lucius in the upcoming show. He said that he believes “Johnny’s great.”<\/p>\n “Johnny will do his own thing. Maybe he’ll be more charming,” said Isaacs during the interview.<\/p>\n He then said he believes Flynn’s version of Lucius will look different from how he portrayed the character in the Harry Potter <\/em>films.<\/p>\n “I doubt that he’ll look like me, because that was the look I came up with and he’s far too original to want to copy anything,” said the actor.<\/p>\n While speaking to Esquire <\/a>in March 2025, Isaacs explained he came up with Lucius iconic long icy-blond hair, cloak, and having his wand inside a sleek cane. According to Isaac, the original sketch for Lucius in his introductory film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets<\/em>, which premiered in 2002, showed the wizard with short hair and “a pinstriped suit.” Isaacs disagreed with the design because he believed that Lucius wouldn’t want to look like a Muggle. Eventually, he was able to convince the film’s director, Chris Columbus<\/strong>, to go with his vision of Lucius.<\/p>\n In the August 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Isaacs, who co-starred with Flynn in the 2021 movie Operation Mincemeat<\/em>, shared whether the Emma<\/em> actor has approached him about playing Lucius.<\/p>\n “If he had, I wouldn’t tell anyone. I texted him, and I can say that because that’s my domain to talk about.
