Gavin Adcock has some thoughts on the recent viral moment involving fellow country singer-songwriter Zach Bryan<\/a> and a 14-year-old autograph-seeking fan. Quite a few of them, actually, and none of them super nice.<\/p>\n The \u201cA Cigarette\u201d singer recently spoke to Rolling Stone<\/a>\u2018s Nashville Now podcast in an interview in which he threw shade at Bryan over the way the singer responded to the teen on his socials. In a since-deleted TikTok comment after the second night of Bryan\u2019s three-show stand at New Jersey\u2019s MetLife Stadium on July 19, Bryan wrote, \u201cYou\u2019re not entitled after someone plays two and a half hours to a picture or a hello,\u201d to which he amended the NSFW acronym \u201cGOMD.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t about not wanting to sign autographs after a show, it\u2019s like letting a 14-year-old kid rant, without saying, \u2018get off my d\u2013k.\u2019 You\u2019re bigger than that,\u201d Adcock told the podcast about Bryan. The singer known for kicking up dust with his comments added that he didn\u2019t think Bryan\u2019s public persona is what it seems.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Zach Bryan puts on a big mask in his day-to-day life and sometimes he can\u2019t help but rip it off and show his true colors,\u201d said Adcock without offering any specific insight into the alleged \u201ctrue colors\u201d of the artist he admittedly does not know and has never met. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t say Zach Bryan is my buddy,\u201d he told the pod. \u201cI ain\u2019t his buddy, he ain\u2019t my buddy. I ain\u2019t met the guy. I don\u2019t need him.\u201d<\/p>\n At press time a spokesperson for Bryan had not responded to Billboard\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n Adcock signed to Warner Music Nashville in 2024 and released his debut album, Actin\u2019 Up Again, and followed up this month with the just-released 24-song Own Worst Enemy LP. In June, the singer made headlines not for his own music, but for his thoughts on Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s Grammy-winning 2024 album Cowboy Carter, lamenting to a live audience that the singer\u2019s country turn was blocking his own album from climbing into the top 3 on Apple Music\u2019s country albums chart at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of them\u2019s Beyonc\u00e9 \u2014 you can tell her we\u2019re coming for her f\u2013kin\u2019 a\u2013s,\u201d\u00a0he told the crowd. \u201cThat s\u2013t ain\u2019t country music<\/a> and it ain\u2019t ever been country music, and it ain\u2019t gonna be country music,\u201d he added. He later posted a video explaining his thoughts in which he said, \u201cWhen I was a little kid, my mama was blasting some Beyonc\u00e9 in the car. I\u2019ve heard a ton of Beyonce songs and I actually remember her Super Bowl halftime show being pretty kick-a\u2013 back in the day. But I really don\u2019t believe that her album should be labeled as country music. It doesn\u2019t sound country, it doesn\u2019t feel country, and I just don\u2019t think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top, just because she\u2019s Beyonc\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n Adcock was back at it again this week, when he appeared to call out singer-songwriter Charley Crockett, who earlier this week posted a long Instagram message speaking out in support of Beyonc\u00e9 and her album following Adcock\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n \u201cHey country folks.\u00a0@beyonce\u00a0ain\u2019t the source of your discontent. It was 25 years of bro country.\u00a0#1\u00a0country artist on earth listen\u2019s to nothing but rap,\u201d Crockett wrote<\/a>. \u201cOpenly says he doesn\u2019t really know any country music. Gotta respect his honesty. The machine points to a black woman who\u2019s making a statement about marginalized people being removed from the conversation altogether, and somehow we all act like the entire pop industry didn\u2019t just ambush roots music. These \u2018country boys\u2019 been *singing* over trap beats for years.\u201d<\/p>\n Though he didn\u2019t call out Adcock by name, Crockett ended with the quip, \u201cI don\u2019t need to put down a Black woman to advance my music. That\u2019s just embarrassing to the idea of America and I got no respect for it.\u201d<\/p>\n Adcock appeared to respond in kind on Tuesday, tweeting<\/a>, \u201cSomebody needs to tell the \u2018act\u2019 that has let out (the cover) of James town ferry 6 times he should just work on letting out quality original music.\u201d Though he didn\u2019t call him out by name, Adcock appeared to be targeting Crockett, who first released his version of \u201cJamestown Ferry\u201d \u2014\u00a0the song made famous by Tanya Tucker in 1972 \u2014\u00a0on his 2017 Lil G.L.\u2019s Honky Tonk Jubilee album, then included it on his 2023 Live From the Ryman LP and remixed it for inclusion on this year\u2019s Lonesome Drifter album.<\/p>\n \u201cI got more cows\u2013t under my pinky then you have seen your whole fu\u2013in\u2019 life. Hank sr called and asked about the cosplay cowboy,\u201d Adcock said.
