Katy Perry\u2019s years-long courtroom fight over a $15 million Santa Barbara mansion is\u00a0 heading into a new phase<\/a>, and the family of bedridden veteran Carl Westcott says they are willing to forgive the pop star<\/a> \u2014 but only under one condition.<\/p>\n As the second phase of the legal battle begins Thursday, August 21, Perry is seeking damages she says she\u2019s owed after purchasing the home from the 85-year-old entrepreneur, who suffers from Huntington\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n Speaking to the NPPost, Westcott\u2019s son, Chart, said\u00a0forgiveness could come<\/a>\u00a0if the\u00a0singer<\/a> finally apologized for dragging his family through the trial.\u00a0\u201cAn apology would be nice. That would tie a ribbon around the whole thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201c[I\u2019m] not expecting it. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s in her nature to take responsibility for anything, really at all, but certainly not for her bad acts. She doesn\u2019t take responsibility, so that\u2019s not going to happen. But that would be nice.\u201d<\/p>\n Chart stressed he would accept a sincere apology, adding, \u201cAbsolutely. I think you have to forgive people if they\u2019re sincere in their apologies. You have to give them that grace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Still, he argued Perry had shown \u201cnot one ounce of grace or dignity\u201d to his father.<\/p>\n Perry, 40, was awarded ownership of the mansion in December 2023, but Westcott tried to undo the sale claiming he was mentally incapacitated. Perry sued to have the sale go through and won the case after years of litigation, with a judge ruling that Westcott \u201cpresented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract between June 10, 2020, and June 18, 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n The judge added there was proof he was \u201ccoherent, engaged, lucid, and rational\u201d when signing.
