Yet, series creator <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/television\/could-downton-abbey-and-the-gilded-age-cross-over-julian-fellowes-responds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Julian Fellowes has always been more of the \u201cnever say never\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>Julian Fellowes has always been more of the \u201cnever say never\u201d <\/u><\/a>opinion, and now that <em>The Gilded Age<\/em> has wrapped on Season 3 and is coming back for Season 4, not to mention we&#8217;re about to get a third <em>Downton<\/em> movie, the topic has come up again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In fact, Fellowes was doing some press ahead of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/upcoming-movies-2025-movie-release-130453990.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:upcoming 2025 movie release;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>upcoming 2025 movie release<\/u><\/a>, and was asked once more about the possibility of a crossover between the two projects. This time, he got a little more specific about why a possible crossover could work. (Though he also told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tvline.com\/news\/the-gilded-age-season-4-downton-abbey-crossover-1235486644\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:TV Line;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>TV Line<\/u><\/a> there is no official news on this front.)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Well, obviously there\u2019s an opportunity to [stage a crossover], because they are both in England. Things like the shooting season or whatever would incorporate many great houses for all of these families, as they would travel around England. We can bring about a conjunction whenever we wish, really, but we haven\u2019t got one planned yet, so we\u2019ll have to see.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>Spoilers ahead if you plan to <\/strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/streaming-news\/watch-the-gilded-age-season-3-online\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:watch The Gilded Age Season 3.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><strong>watch <\/strong><em><strong>The Gilded Age<\/strong><\/em><strong> Season 3.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">During Season 3 of <em>The Gilded Age<\/em>, Carrie Coon\u2019s Bertha got her wish and married off her naive daughter Gladys to a Duke, which made her a duchess, but led her own marriage into rocky waters. Gladys then headed to England, and ended the recent season pregnant. So, as Fellowes notes, if the show wants to tie in with Downton in the future, there is potential for a character, family, or even location crossover when Season 4 comes around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Fellowes has also been candid that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/articles\/one-character-downton-abbey-could-031100520.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:getting HBO and Focus Features on the same page;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">getting HBO and Focus Features on the same page<\/a> might be the biggest task. Back when Gareth Neame had commented on the prospect, he had also mentioned the crossover potential was there, as well. He said that while Dame Maggie Smith\u2019s character would have been alive during the 1880s time frame <em>The Gilded Age<\/em> is set in (and was memorably wooed by a Russian in St. Petersberg), \u201cnothing was planned&#8221; at the time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s a separate universe, but they\u2019re both fictions set in the 1880s. Downton Abbey, in its own fiction, was definitely there. A younger version of the Maggie Smith character would be living there, I guess. But it\u2019s not really planned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That was back in Season 1. Now, we\u2019re heading into Season 4, and there\u2019s plenty more time to explore some possible nods and winks. I think the fanbase is ready for them, too.
