Kelly Bensimon<\/strong> was one of the many watching The Real Housewives of New York City<\/em> reboot \u2014 and she has some thoughts<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Star<\/em>, the real estate broker, 57, dished on the Bravo series, which has garnered mixed reactions since it was revamped with a new cast \u2014\u00a0 Jenna Lyons<\/strong>, Sai De Silva<\/strong>, Ubah Hassan<\/strong>, Racquel Chevremont,<\/strong> Erin Lichy<\/strong>, Jessel Taank<\/strong> and Brynn Whitfield<\/strong> \u2014 in its 14th season. (In May, Page Six<\/em><\/a> reported that the show is going off the air.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all great women, they just didn\u2019t have anyone like a seasoned pro to push them along,\u201d\u00a0 Bensimon explains. \u201cThe thing is about Housewives<\/em> [is], it\u2019s a soap opera. You\u2019re on Guiding Light<\/em>, you\u2019re not on Sesame Street<\/em> \u2014 you have to know your audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody cares about someone\u2019s influencing career,\u201d she continues. \u201cI don\u2019t want to watch someone tell me how they promote a glass \u2014 I want them to tell me what their problem is with their child or what\u2019s happening with their best friend, or their relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re supposed to be soap opera-ting,\u201d the mom of two says, \u201cnot influencing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bensimon joined the cast of RHONY<\/em> in season 2 and starred alongside Bethenny Frankel<\/strong>, Luann de Lesseps<\/strong>, Alex McCord<\/strong>, Ramona Singer<\/strong> and Jill Zarin<\/strong> before leaving after season 4. She made a highly anticipated return in season 4 of The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip<\/em>.<\/p>\n

According to the I Do, Part 2<\/em> podcast mentor<\/a>, she gave fellow model Hassan, 41, advice when she found out she had been cast. \u201cI told Uba, \u2018Be you. Be your gorgeous, beautiful self, tell people who you are and where you\u2019re from, and what makes Uba, Uba,\u201d Bensimon tells Star<\/em>. \u201cLike, that\u2019s what we want to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bensimon thinks the secret to being successful on reality television is keeping things authentic. \u201cWhen I first got [on Housewives<\/em>], I was like, \u2018I have no idea who these people are. No one gave me a bio. I have no idea what\u2019s going on. Can someone please give me the script?\u2019 Where is my, \u2018Your hair looks great?\u2019\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

However, things took a dark turn during Bensimon\u2019s tenure, which included the infamous \u2018Scary Island\u2019 trip: \u201cWe didn\u2019t see that funnyness of what it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bikini Book<\/em> author may have been considered a polarizing figure during her time on RHONY<\/em>, but according to her, that\u2019s not always a bad thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes it\u2019s better not to be liked than it is to be liked,\u201d she explains.\u00a0 \u201cThe curiosity of me not being liked \u2014 people are like, \u2018well, I don\u2019t like you,\u2019 and then they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, my God, I love you.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Which one is it?\u2019<\/p>\n
