Lord Ivar Mountbatten<\/strong><\/a>, a distant cousin<\/a> of the late Queen Elizabeth<\/strong> and a contestant on season 3 of The Traitors<\/em><\/a>, says the late Queen once refused to open an airport terminal after he had a run-in with the staff.<\/p>\n

Ivar, 62, recounted the story of how a \u201csweet check-in lady\u201d at Bristol Airport would not let him bring his shotguns on a flight to visit Queen Elizabeth in Aberdeen, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth, who died in 2022 at age 96, was apparently so annoyed by her visitor\u2019s delay that, as Ivar told it on the Monday, August 18, episode of Gyles Brandreth<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cRosebud<\/a>\u201d podcast, she decided in the moment not to open the terminal.<\/p>\n

When the airport staff would not adjust their policy for Ivar, he said he told them, \u201cThe Queen\u2019s sending me a car and she\u2019s expecting me for tea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ivar ultimately relented and he left his guns in the police armory at the airport before boarding his flight. He said the late Queen later sent someone back to the airport to retrieve them.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said \u2026 \u2018I would like Lord Ivar\u2019s guns to be up here tomorrow morning,\u2019\u201d Ivar recalled. \u201cPlease see to it\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhereupon she turns back to me and she looks at me over her glasses with a glint in her eye and she says \u2018They want me to open their new terminal\u2019. She says \u2018I don\u2019t think I will now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo every time I go back to Bristol Airport now, it was opened by the Princess Royal, I have a quiet laugh to myself,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for Bristol Airport told the BBC<\/a> that it was Princess Anne<\/strong>, not Elizabeth, who was always supposed to open the terminal.<\/p>\n
