Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the filmmaking duo behind \u201cSpider-Verse,\u201d \u201cThe Lego Movie\u201d and \u201c21 Jump Street,\u201d are bringing Archie Comics to the big screen.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ll produce a new live-action film with Aditya Sood, president of their production company Lord Miller, through their first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Comic book writer Tom King is penning the screenplay, though plot details haven\u2019t been confirmed.<\/p>\n
More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n In its 85-year history, Archie Comics has sold over 3 billion copies that were published in dozens of languages across the globe. The characters of Archie, Betty and Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats and Katy Keene have graced screens many times over the years, most recently on TV shows like the CW series \u201cRiverdale\u201d and Netflix\u2019s \u201cChilling Adventures of Sabrina.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe are longtime fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the gang in all of their iterations,\u201d said Lord and Miller. \u201cWhen we heard Tom King\u2019s take on the classic material, we instantly thought it made sense as an event movie for all audiences \u2014 both lifelong fans and a whole new generation. We\u2019re so excited to bring these beloved characters to the big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n Emma Watts, who brought the project to Lord Miller with King, will produce the untitled film along with publisher Jon Goldwater.
