The music world is mourning one of their own.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Brent Hinds<\/strong>, best known as a founding member and the former guitarist for the heavy metal band <\/span>Mastodon<\/strong>, died on Aug. 20, <\/span>the band confirmed<\/span><\/a>. He was 51.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hinds\u2019 cause of death was a motorcycle accident. The guitarist was riding his Harley Davidson <\/span>bike<\/span> in Atlanta the night of Aug. 20 when he collided with a BMW SUV, <\/span>the<\/span> Atlanta Police Department <\/span>said in an Aug. 21 statement<\/span><\/a>. The driver of the BMW \u201cfailed to yield while turning left” but remained at the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n An investigation is still ongoing, according to police.<\/span><\/p>\n Following the tragic news, the remaining members of Mastodon had a heartfelt message for Hinds\u2014who <\/span>left Mastodon in March<\/span><\/a>\u2014<\/span>saying they were \u201cin a state of unfathomable sadness and grief.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe are heartbroken, shocked,\u201d <\/span>the band<\/span> wrote on <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> Aug. 21. \u201cand still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we\u2019ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
