\n Three songs from the soundtrack have cracked the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, with \u201cGolden\u201d by the movie\u2019s fictional girl group Huntr\/x peaking at No. 1. Nearly all of the kids I talked to could sing the chorus of \u201cGolden\u201d or the Saja Boys\u2019 saccharine \u201cSoda Pop\u201d flawlessly on the spot \u2014 sisters Deanna and Dalayna Iphill mentioned that they knew the choreography and lyrics to every song in the movie.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d also appears to have spawned a delightful fandom of in-jokes and references. MacLean reports that she and her friends are constantly texting each other lines like \u201cI don\u2019t think you\u2019re ready for the takedown\u201d and \u201cgolden.\u201d When I asked Reid what topics she and her friends were discussing around the movie, she responded: \u201cLet\u2019s just say we weren\u2019t really having conversations. We were having whole, full-blown singing montages.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n After conversations with about a dozen kids, I thought I had successfully grasped the basics of \u201cKPop Demon Hunters.\u201d Then, Reid ended our chat with this cryptic advice: \u201cA message I have to say is that if you see someone drop their vocal patches, do not take it!\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Puzzled, I asked her what this meant.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cYou\u2019ll see when you watch the movie,\u201d she replied with a playful giggle.\n <\/p>\n
\n Seeing the fervor with which Reid and the other kids discussed \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d I was persuaded. Maybe I\u2019ll actually watch it for myself.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
