Jennifer Lopez has appeared in the first trailer for the queer movie musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The hotly anticipated film<\/a> by director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) is based on the 1992 stage musical by playwrights Terrence McNally<\/a>, John Kander, and Fred Ebb, which was adapted from the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s official logline<\/a> reads: \u201cValent\u00edn (Diego Luna), a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favourite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna (Lopez)<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marking the second film adaptation of the novel following the 1985 thriller\/romance directed by H\u00e9ctor Babenco, the trailer taps into the vibrant scenes of Molina\u2019s mind, which allow him to escape his fate for a while. \u201cThere go the lights,\u201d he says before a scene flashes of Ingrid dancing. \u201cIt\u2019s in glorious technicolour.\u201d<\/p>\n

To this, Molina responds, \u201cDon\u2019t you like to dream? At least, a little?\u201d<\/p>\n

As later scenes flash of the ever-glamorous performer Ingrid, Molina adds: \u201cNo matter how hard Hollywood tried to make her seem all-American, she never stopped being Latin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kiss of the Spider Woman cast:<\/h2>\n

Heading up the cast of Kiss of the Spider Woman is Star Wars actor Diego Luna<\/a> as Valent\u00edn, Promised Land actor Tonatiuh as Molina and Jennifer Lopez as Ingrid Luna.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lopez and Luna are also both executive producers for the upcoming movie musical.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kiss of the Spider Woman release date:<\/h2>\n

After its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, Kiss of the Spider Woman is set to hit theatres on 10 October.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Early reviews from critics have garnered an 83 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, with The Daily Beast<\/a> writing that \u201cCondon confirms that he\u2019s simply unrivalled when it comes to directing movie musicals, and the three leads deliver a trifecta of tour de forces\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
