Helen Mirren<\/strong><\/a> is happily married to director Taylor Hackford<\/strong>, but she takes issue with fan \u201ccondescension\u201d about their public appearances in relation to their ages.<\/p>\n \u201cThe hardest part is the condescension. It really annoys me,\u201d Mirren, 80, told The Times of London <\/i><\/a>in a profile published on Friday, August 22. \u201cIf my husband and I are holding hands, someone might say, \u2018Oh, look. How sweet.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n She added, “It\u2019s like, excuse my language, \u2018F*** off.\u2019 There\u2019s something very condescending about some people\u2019s attitudes. I think they think they are being kind and generous, but they\u2019re not. They\u2019re being insulting.\u201d<\/p>\n Mirren and Hackford, 80, have been married<\/a> since 1997, splitting their time between respective homes in the British actress\u2019 native England and Nevada. [I have family here, too, which] pulls my heart back here.\u201d<\/p>\n Mirren costars in The Thursday Murder Club <\/i>with Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley<\/strong> and Celia Imrie<\/strong> in the upcoming adaptation of Richard Osman<\/strong>\u2019s 2020 novel about four seniors (all amateur sleuths) banding together to solve a murder.<\/p>\n \u201cThe story obviously has to hold together and be intriguing for the audience,\u201d Mirren exclusively told Us Weekly <\/i><\/a>at the red carpet premiere earlier this month. \u201cWithout really good characters, it really is meaningless.\u201d<\/p>\n Luckily, Mirren \u2014 and her castmates \u2014 approved of the story line and signed on.<\/p>\n
