Freddie Gibbs<\/a> has named 50 Cent<\/a> and Scarface<\/a> as the rappers who inspired him to hop in the booth.<\/p>\n Gibbs had a conversation about his rap roots on The Ryen Russillo Podcast that came out on Thursday (Aug. 21).<\/p>\n \u201cThe first rapper that made me be like, \u2018Yeah, I\u2019m gonna rap,\u2019 is 50 Cent,\u201d he said (around the 40-minute mark) before reflecting on what a young Gangsta Gibbs was thinking when he heard him: \u201cI love what he\u2019s doing. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe first person to make me fall in love with rap, period as a child, was Scarface,\u201d he added. \u201cWhen I heard \u2018Mr. Scarface<\/a>\u2019 and [the Geto Boys’ 1991 album] \u2018We Can\u2019t Be Stopped,’ it clicked because I could relate to everything he was saying.\u201d<\/p>\n Gibbs then switched gears to explain what made him such a huge fan of Fif.<\/p>\n \u201cI admired his whole hustle about the game, like the G-Unit mixtape. Everything he was doing. The business side of it was impressive to me,\u201d admitted Gibbs.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an underdog story to me. That\u2019s what made it interesting,\u201d Gibbs continued. \u201cEveryone was going against him. They shot him and all of that. He even made a song about it.\u201d<\/p>\n In other Gibbs news, the rapper has revealed what his next project will be: a collab album with Kaytranada.<\/a><\/p>\n In July, Gibbs spoke with Apple Music about what he plans to do after Alfredo 2<\/a>, his latest project with The Alchemist.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI was with Kaytranada a couple of months ago and we made a new song, so I was like \u2018Alright, let\u2019s make a whole album,\u2019\u201d said Gibbs. \u201cI think that\u2019s going to be the next album.\u201d<\/p>\n Gibbs explained that they\u2019re already working on the album, because he started it while finishing up the first Alfredo, which dropped in 2020. The rapper then revealed how Ty Dolla Sign<\/a> inspired him and how that connected to the upcoming LP.<\/p>\n \u201cTy Dolla Sign is one of the best musicians that I\u2019ve been in the studio with all around, from the singing, producing, playing live instruments, to rapping,\u201d Gibbs explained. \u201cHe\u2019s like a Swiss Army knife in the studio, so the month and a half or so that I got to spend with him in Italy, when we were working on Vultures, was a really inspirational time for me.
