That guy is David Fincher. And David is going to do what David wants to do,\u201d series star Holt McCallany told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to work with him again. And I loved that show. The plot followed FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (McCallany), who launch a research project to interview serial killers, study their behavior, and use it to aid with ongoing cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Although Netflix is opaque about viewership numbers, the show was critically acclaimed, and audiences have long speculated if it\u2019s really over.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/01\/16\/mindhunter-season-3-is-now-in-jeopardy\/\">Netflix put the show on indefinite hold<\/a> and released the cast from their contracts, but they said it wasn\u2019t an official cancellation. \u201cHe may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn\u2019t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own,\u201d a spokesperson\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2020\/01\/mindhunter-future-in-limbo-season-3-canceled-renewed-netflix-series-cast-options-expire-1202831897\/\">told Deadline<\/a> at the time, referring to Fincher. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Holt McCallany and Jonathan Groff in \u201cMindhunter.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Patrick Harbron\/Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2023, the \u201cSocial Network\u201d director told the French outlet <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lejdd.fr\/culture\/david-fincher-au-jdd-en-france-vous-aimez-vraiment-le-cinema-132770\">Le Journal du Dimanche<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m very proud of the first two seasons. But it\u2019s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn\u2019t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment [for season three].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans have created petitions to bring back the show, with one collecting over <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/david-fincher-production-and-completion-of-mindhunter-netflix-season-3\">80,000 signatures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McCallany compared \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d creator Kevin Williamson, who helms his new show \u201cThe Waterfront,\u201d to Fincher.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKevin Williamson is a very easygoing guy, a very supportive, very gentle presence on the set. And I admire that too. He\u2019s one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although McCallany said that he\u2019d be \u201chappy\u201d to return if Fincher brought back \u201cMindhunter,\u201d he said he\u2019s focusing on returning for \u201cThe Waterfront.\u201d The Netflix series follows the Buckley family, who preside over a fishing empire in a coastal North Carolina town and smuggle drugs on their boats.\u00a0It\u2019s yet to be renewed for Season 2. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no arguments. There were no people that didn\u2019t get along. We just had fun,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m optimistic that we\u2019re going to return for a second season.
