Throughout September, audiences can experience the talent and creativity of the community in a variety of performances and activities. Read below for more details about these coming events and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/usu\/weekly-event-reminder-email-subscription\">subscribe to the weekly events reminder email.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Russell\/Wanlass Performance Hall<\/p>\n<p>The JP Jofre Hard Tango Chamber Band, started by bandoneonist and composer Juan Pablo (J.P.) Jofre, focuses on Jofre\u2019s original works and authentic interpretations of legendary composer Astor Piazzolla. Jofre has been highlighted several times by The New York Times and praised by Lincoln Center, who called him \u201cone of today\u2019s leading tango artists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sept. 11, 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Daines Concert Hall<\/p>\n<p>The Caine School of the Arts will present the Utah Symphony for a special one-night-only performance, bringing world-class artistry to Logan right here in the heart of our campus. Enjoy an evening of live music with this unique opportunity \u2014 free for all USU students, faculty and staff, and only $10 for the general public.<\/p>\n<p>Age limit for the Utah Symphony is 5 and older.<\/p>\n<p>EVENT OVERVIEW:<\/p>\n<p>Acclaimed pianist Orion Weiss returns to the Utah Symphony with Grieg\u2019s only piano concerto \u2014 a playful and passionate masterpiece packed with fiery moments, gorgeous melodies and a Norwegian folk-inspired finale that never fails to thrill.<\/p>\n<p>Under the baton of Anja Bihlmaier, making her Utah Symphony debut, the evening begins with Olly Wilson\u2019s Shango Memory, a powerful tribute to the Nigerian god of thunder that weaves together African and American musical traditions.<\/p>\n<p>The concert reaches its grand finale with Schumann\u2019s \u201cSpring\u201d Symphony, where optimism and renewal bloom in every note. So why is she so drawn to this guy Francis who gave up all his possessions just because poor people are suffering? Everyone in town says he\u2019s crazy. And yet she starts seeing everything in her life differently. Each Jazz Jams session will showcase the Caine Jazz Combo, a special guest artist, and talented jazz students from the Music Department, all performing timeless jazz standards. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals.
