If creator, red carpet correspondent, and advice queen Tefi Pessoa <\/a>could tell her audience one thing, it\u2019s that the person she is on their for-you-pages is the same exact person she is when the cameras stop rolling.<\/p>\n \u201cThe energy that you feel is real! It\u2019s not a character,\u201d Pessoa says during a wide-ranging Rolling Stone <\/em>interview. \u201cThere\u2019s not enough Vyvanse or Adderrall in the world to come up with that character.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Pessoa, 35, was first inspired to be some kind of creator before she even fathomed what content creation was \u2014 watching a visiting storyteller during middle school and thinking \u201cthat\u2019s real power.\u201d Now, Pessoa has become a go-to source for everything from comedy to good old-fashioned sit-down-and-shut-up advice. In May, she started a monthly advice column with the Cut called Ask Tefi<\/em>, and just this month launched a new Vox Media podcast Tefi Talks, <\/em>where she breaks down some of the biggest pop culture news of the day. Pessoa sat down with Rolling Stone <\/em>to celebrate the release of the 25 Most Influential Creators List <\/a>and talk through her own experience becoming a creator people know for being a sage \u2014 and direct \u2014 voice of reason.<\/p>\n One thing Pessoa bemoans is the lack of nuance in digital spaces,\u00a0saying she she wishes people treated content creators with more good faith understanding instead of pile-ons.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople always say, \u2018Tefi, ignore the haters,\u2019\u201d she says. But that\u2019s easier said than done. \u201cYou can barely tolerate someone cutting you off in traffic. Imagine someone coming online and saying, \u2018You\u2019re a bad person.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The creator describes her online presence as a \u201cgated community,\u201d one that doesn\u2019t exclude people, but helps her build up important boundaries to make sure she can keep the most precious parts of her life safe.<\/p>\n \u201cEven with dating and stuff, I feel a lot safer talking about my life because I like to talk about things that I\u2019ve already learned. I don\u2019t wanna learn with someone who doesn\u2019t know me. And I think being older online has given me that,\u201d she says. \u201cIf I was 21 years old, I would post my pap smear results.\u201d<\/p>\n Tefi chatted about the people she recognized on the Most Influential Creator List (<\/a>\u201cTefi Pessoa\u2019s a real bitch\u201d), the people she had mixed feelings about (\u201cMr.Beast.
