Prime Video<\/a> is officially adapting L. Frank Baum\u2019s classic children\u2019s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/a><\/strong> into a TV show. Titled Dorothy, the project will be different from previous adaptations as the creative team intends to put a modern twist on the iconic and timeless story.<\/p>\n The Wizard of Oz TV show is described as a \u201ccontemporary, music-infused YA retelling\u201d of Dorothy Gale\u2019s unexpected adventure into the magical world of Oz. It is expected to use the Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the challenges and choices facing young adults today.<\/p>\n According to Deadline, Dorothy will be created and produced by 13 Going on 30 producer Gina Matthews through her Little Engine label. The project will also be executive-produced by award-winning singers Gwen Stefani<\/a> and Blake Shelton<\/a>, along with Lucky Horseshow\u2019s Lee Metzger, Little Engine\u2019s Grant Scharbo, and Patrick Moran. Her creativity and perspective are such a natural fit for this project.\u201d<\/p>\n This Wizard of Oz TV show comes after the critical and commercial success of Universal Pictures\u2019 Wicked movie, which was led by Academy Award nominees Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Since its theatrical debut in 2024, the movie has maintained its Certified Fresh score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
