Sophie Turner regrets being online after joining Game of Thrones<\/em> as a teenager. The actress, who was 14 when she joined the cast as Sansa Stark, admitted that social media took a toll on her mental health during her early years as an actress.<\/p>\n \u201cI think social media was just really becoming a big thing after I started on\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/em>, so I got a couple of years of peace and quiet and then I had to adjust,\u201d she said in a new interview with Flaunt<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt had such a profound impact on my mental health, like more than I could tell you. It almost destroyed me on numerous occasions.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n She told Flaunt<\/em> that she suffered from anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder during that time period, noting that therapy is what helped her come out of it. \u201cOne of the most important things to me in my life is talking about mental health: it\u2019s\u00a0vital,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The actress said she\u2019s especially worried about the stars of HBO\u2019s forthcoming Harry Potter<\/em> reboot, which recently began filming. The young cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.<\/p>\n \u201cI look at the kids who are about to be in the new\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0<\/em>and I just want to give them a hug and say, \u2018Look, it\u2019s going to be okay but don\u2019t go anywhere near [social media],’\u201d she said. \u201cStay friends with your home friends, keep living at home with your family, make sure your parents are your chaperones\u2014it\u2019s so important to have that grounding adjacent to the big, crazy stuff that you do.’\u201d<\/p>\n Turner added that she won\u2019t allow her daughters, who she shares with ex-husband Joe Jonas, to follow in her footsteps. \u201cOh\u00a0God,\u00a0they\u2019re not acting!\u201d she told Flaunt<\/em>. \u201cNot until they\u2019re\u00a0at least\u00a025!\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the interview she spoke about her new film, Trust<\/a><\/em>, and her experiences on Game of Thrones<\/em>, including the scene in which Sansa was sexually assaulted by her husband Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon). Turner was 19 years old when the episode aired.<\/p>\n \u201cI did feel\u2014and still do\u2014that\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/em>\u00a0shone a light on things that many people were like \u2018Oh god, you can\u2019t show that kind of thing\u2019\u2014and I understand it can be triggering\u2014I totally understand that point of view,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I did feel we were actually doing a lot of justice to women and the fight women have had to fight for hundreds of thousands of years\u2014the patriarchy, being treated as objects, and being constantly sexually assaulted\u2014I don\u2019t think there\u2019s one woman I know who hasn\u2019t had a form of that.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cI think if\u00a0Game of Thrones\u00a0<\/em>came out today, we\u2019d definitely put some trigger warnings on there. But I\u2019m really proud to have been a part of\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/em>\u00a0where they didn\u2019t shy away from showing atrocities that happened to women back then. I feel proud to have been part of the conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n Trust<\/em>, in theaters now, sees Turner playing a scandalized Hollywood star in search of privacy.
