Sweden is sending Eagles of the Republic<\/span> to the Oscars 2026, on Wednesday, unveiling it as its official entry for the best international feature film category at the\u00a0Academy Awards.<\/p>\n Tarik Saleh (Dark and Clever Conspiracy Thriller) wrote and directed the political thriller, starring\u00a0Fares Fares<\/a>,\u00a0Lyna Khoudri\u00a0and\u00a0Zineb Triki, is set in the powerful and glamorous Egyptian film industry. \u201cIts brightest shining star is drawn into the vicious undercurrent of deceit, corruption, and propaganda,\u201d notes a synopsis.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n Eagles of the Republic had its world premiere at\u00a0Cannes\u00a0in the main international competition in March before playing the festival circuit. THR\u2018s review called the timely movie a \u201cdark and clever conspiracy thriller.\u201d<\/p>\n It will next be screened in the\u00a0Centrepiece section\u00a0of the 50th edition of\u00a0Toronto International Film Festival\u00a0and also be this year\u2019s opening film of the\u00a0Stockholm International Film Festival.<\/p>\n SF Studios distributes the film across the Nordics, with a theatrical release scheduled for the fall.<\/p>\n Eagles of the Republic\u00a0is the third and final film in Tarik Saleh\u2019s Cairo trilogy after\u00a0The Nile Hilton Incident\u00a0(Grand Jury Prize award, Sundance 2017) and\u00a0Cairo Conspiracy,\u00a0aka\u00a0Boy From Heaven\u00a0(best screenplay, Cannes 2022). The movie was shot in Istanbul last spring and summer and wrapped up in Gothenburg.<\/p>\n \u201dWe are honored to have been selected to represent Sweden in such a strong year for Swedish film,\u201d said Saleh. \u201cOur journey only just started, but it will be extra fun to screen the film in Toronto with this recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n Saleh\u2019s Cairo Conspiracy had made the international Oscar shortlist but wasn\u2019t nominted.
